Dobbyn William A. Dobbyn, 63, passed away Friday evening about 8:30 at €e Spartanburg General hospital llowing a lingering illness. Funer services will be held on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Church of the Holy Cross with'the Rev. C. P. Burnett officiating. Inter ment will follow in the Tryon ceme tery. (Please omit flowers). The pallbearers will be Julian Calhoun, Dr. Louis Fuldner, B. L. Ballen ger, Fred E. Swann, A. M. Law, Julian Hester. Mr. Dobbyn is survived by his widow, the former M£ss Kathleen O’Farrell of Athens, Ga., and one son, William A. Dobbyn, Jr., stu dent at the Episcopal School, Alexandria, Va. Mr. Dobbyn was born at Croton, Ohio, on February 23, 1876. For a number of years he was secre tary to James K. Hackett, the fa mous actor, and later tft Levi P. Morton, at one time vice-president the United States, and was sec 'w ‘tary to Col. John'Jacob Astor the time of the sinking of the Titanic. He remained with the Astor family as secretary to Vin cent Astor until 14 years ago when he resigned and came to Try on to live. Mr. Astor, upon learning of Mi*. Dobbyn’s serious illness, visited him in Tryon about three weeks ago. Mr. Dobbyn had an interesting career, and made many friends and contacts with noted people all over the world. At one time he was secretary of the Ohio society of New York, and was a member of the Players club of New York. In Tryon, when health permitted, he took an active part in the Drama Fortnightly, the local little theatre. At The Churches (Visitorß Are Welcome at All Churches).
