Est. 1-31-28 Dr. Taylor At Kiwanis Dr. George Farrand Taylor gave an interesting talk on the forces behind the present war, at the )Tryon Kiwanis Club on Tuesday noon at Hotel Tryon. C. J. Lynch had charge of the program. Ki_ wanians Jim Love and Dr. Farber of Delray Beach, Fla., who are stopping at the Otaks in Saluda, were guests at the club. Most of the Kiwanians present indicated that they planned to attend the annual Kiwanis picnic at Camp Greystone on Friday. Baptist Picnic Today Anyone desiring transportation to the First Baptist church picnic at Harmon Field this evening are requested to get in touch with W. R. Hoots or N. L. Wilson. SOFTBALL NEWS Landrum defeated Soumerco 12 ‘"to 6 in soft ball on Tuesday af ternoon at Harmon Field. Today the Bushwhackers will play the Kilowatts at 6:15 at Har mon Field. On Thursday a doubleheadsr will be played between the bush whackers and Landrum at Har mon Field. On Friday the high school will play Soumerco. ROTARY FRIDAY Dr. M. C. Palmer will be in charge of the Tryon Rotary Club program on Friday at 1 p. m., at Sunnydale Log Cabin. $1.50 Year In the Carolinas WEDNESDAY, AUG. 7, 1940 TRYON, N. C., Closing Exercises Tryon Boys’ Club The Tryon Boys’ Club will give its closing exercises on Friday morning, August 9th, at the Tryon school auditorium. The exercises will begin promptly at 9:30 a. m., and last for about 45 minutes. The public is cordially invited to at tend. Program of exercises: Invocation: Rev. B. G. Henry. Song, “God Bless America”: The audience. The Boys’ Club and its Service to the Community: W. A. Schil letter. What Six Years in the Club has Meant to Me: Holland Brady. Short Address: Major Sharp. Presenting Cup to Larger Boy: Nelson Jackson, Jr. Presenting Cup to Shnaller Boy: Charlie Lynch. Inspection of Craft Work: Club. Baseball Game: Club. The club has had a most sus eessful season this year. Much in terest and good sportsmanship has been shown by the boys. The en rollment of the club has reached 60 members and we have had an average daily attendance of 42. On Tuesday of this week the boys voted on the two most out standing members in the club. Trophies will be awarded to these two boys. A cup will be given to the most outstanding bov 12 years old or older. Thisi cup being given by Nelson Jackson, Jr. A cup to the most outstanding boy under 12 years of iage will be given by Charlie Lynch.
