Oscar Brady, Frank Owen and Earle Christopher were chos en to serve as councilmen and Carl Barnett as water commission er. The unofficial count was: For mayor, Lyles Carpenter, 75 and Noah Daniel, 69; for councilmen, A. J. Mitchell, 120, Oscar Brady, 108, Frank Owen, 102, Earle Christopher, 100, Kermit Bullock, 79. and J. E. Ballew, 69; for water commissioner, Carl Bar nett, 118 and W. Chuck McKin ney, 23.—Spartanburg Herald. Methodist Young Adults Meet Thursday Night The Young Adults Fellowship class of the Tryon Methodist church will meet on Thursday h night at 8 o’clock at the Methodist r parsonage en Godshaw Hill with Mrs. Geo. M. Schreyer as hostess. The president, Dr. Will McCall, requests all members to be present. Baptist Women Meet On Monday—Next Week The Missionary Society of the Tryon First Baptist church will meet on Monday afternoon, Nov. 10th, instead of at the regular time, with Mrs. James B. Hester at her home on Godshaw Hill at 4 o’clock. Topic for discussion: “Our Missionary Work in Africa”. Mrs. H. L. Arledge, program leader. 51.50 Year in the Carolina 9 TRYON, N. C„ WEDNESDAY, NOV. 5, 1941 | Miss Lois Avant Bride of | Reverend R. Archie Ellis In a ceremony of charming simplicity, Miss Lois Slate Avant became the bride of Rev. Richard Archie Ellis, Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock in the Erskine Memorial Congregational church. Rev. C. Arthur Lincoln, D.D., the bride’s pastor, and Dr. E. E. Bomar, of Landrum, S. C., offi ciated. Palms, branched candelabra holding cathedral tapers and large baskets of white chrysanthemums formed the background for the vows. Mrs. E. E. Missildine, or ganist, rendered a program of nuptial music prior to the cere mony. “Serenade” by Schubert was played as a violin solo by Mrs. A. J. Mitchell. Edwin Beach sang j “Until” by Sanderson and “Be- I lieve Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms.” The “Wedding March” from Lohengrin was play ed for the processional and Men delssohn’s “Wedding March” for the recessional. After the vowa were spoken, the benediction was sung by Mr. Beach. The bride was given in mar riage by her father, Louis An thony Avant. The bridegroom had as his best man his brother, Al bert W. Ellis of Myers Mill, S. C. Usher - groomsmen included Marcus B. Caldwell of Tryon, Pete Harris and Faust Nicholson ot Greenville, S. C., and John Land rum of Landrum, S. C. The bride wore a wedding gown of heavy white satin fashioned with a very full skirt extending into a court train, basque waist and long sleeves.
