SINGING CONVENTIONS The Polk County Singing Con vention, headed by Roy Johnson of Saluda, will be held Sunday, Feb. 23, at Saluda Baptist Church at 2 p. m. Another singing convention will begin at 2:30 at the Peniel Baptist Church below Columbus, also on Sunday, Feb. 23, directed by Glen 0. Scoggins. All singers and the public in general invited to both conventions. Mrs. Caroline H. Hale leaves Saturday for a two weeks’ buying trip to New York City for the Red Bird Associates. While in the East she will visit her daughter, Mrs. Osborne Woodley and family at Englewood, N. J., and also friends in New York. Mrs. W. C. Ward is recovering nicely from a Sacrosciatic opera tion at Mercy Hospital in Char lotte. Louise Harris, colored, employed at Thousand Pines Inn, is having a major operation at St. Luke’s hospital today. There will be no special home canning sugar stamp this year and use of sugar from the new 10 pound stamps to be validated ef fective April 1, must be so plan ned as to fill all needs, A. D. Simpson, Jr., OPA Regional Sugar Executive, said today in Atlanta. Changing the value of ration stamps from 5 to 10 pounds does not mean that consumers will get twice as much sugar. It simply means that in order to make our present supply of ration stamps last longer, the rest of this year’s supply will be available 10 pounds at a time instead of 5 pounds. Mrs. C. Kenyon Andrus has guests, Mr. and Mirs. Rexford Webb of Union City, Pa., who we^ married on Feb. 14, and are spend ing part of their honeymoon at Bonnie Bray on Melrose Circle. Mr. and Mrs. D. W.
