Goler Metropolitan A.M.E. plans Women's Day Goler Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church will hold its annual . Women's Day celebration during the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Novem ber 17. The theme is "Empowered - to Build a New Era thru Our Her itage, Faith, Responsibility, Imple mentation.** The featured speaker will be Ms. De lores J. Smith. Ms. Delores J. Smith is a native of Youngstown, Ohio. She has been an active member of the Winston Salem Human Service community since 1989 and is well known for her position on strengthening the family, empowering black males, youth leadership and education. She has conducted a series of work shops," Understanding the African American Community," which dealt holistically with the entire "Psy chology of Blackness." "D," as she prefers to be called, has a diverse work background. She has been a teacher, a lecturer, com munity leader, social worker and historian. She is a graduate of Adel phi University, where she received her B.S. degree in Social Work. She completed her graduate studies at Youngstown University, where she received her Masters Degree in Counseling. "D" has received numerous awards for her volunteering with youth and the disadvantaged. She was the first female to hold the position of President/CEO of the Warren Trumbull Urban League in Warren, Ohio. She has also been the President of the Winston-Salem Urban League and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Mrs. Dorothy D. McCarthy is Chairperson of the program and Mr. Margretta Brown is co-Chairperson. The program committee is com posed of Dr. Golden Wall, Chairper Mayor Martha Wood to speak at Galilee for Women's Day The Honorable Mayor Martha S. Wood will be the guest speaker for the Women's Day celebration at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 575 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 1 a.m. Music will be furnished by the Galilee Combine Women's Choir, under the direction of Mrs. Cynthia Wooten. The Women's Day celebration will be culminated with the Mr. and Mrs. Galilee Contest on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. Refreshments and a reception will follow in the dining hall. Shirley S.
