More WSSU Foundation board resignations expected from page 1 and the university. Chancellor 'Alvin Schexnider commissioned the report from Joyner Consult ing Inc. Brandquist's resignation let ter said those requests, if granted, would be detrimental to the university, and would make "the whole foundation ... almost a toy of the chancellor." Brandquist said that the foundation had canceled fund raising activities for this year because of lack of university input. Marshall Bass, chairman of the foundation board, said that the organization had raised $20 million for the university since 1990; up until last year, the foun dation worked with the univer sity to do so, he added. The position of vice chancel lor for development, the party that works closest with the foun m. dation, has been vacant for the past year. Schexnider said later that he did not want to fill the vacancy until he resolved matters with the foundation. Schexnider did not elaborate further except to say that the problems had been going on for about a year. Schexnider assumed duties as chancellor of Winston-Salem State University in January 19%. Since his appointment as chan cellor, he has conducted several fund raising events at his home without input from the founda tion. An ad hoc committee, com prised of several foundation board members, recently com pleted a report containing recom mendations for restructuring the board. The report, which will be presented at the April 25 meet- . ing, includes responses to the * trustees requests. Powell keynotes annual ? dinner of African . American think tank WASHINGTON ? Drill Sergeant from Georgia convicted of adultery, from page 1 and four-and-a-half years in jail when sentenced on those counts. A former Army trainee, who is no longer in the Army, testified Monday that she had sex with Daniels at least four times while she was at Fort Leonard Wood. She said she couldn't remember specific dates, but said at least three times they had sex on a desk. Daniels told her to keep their relationship a secret, she said. "He said that he would get in trouble, and I'd probably get in trouble too, so just deny it," she said. On cross examination, the woman admitted she has lied on every statement she's given to military investigators since the alleged incidents in November. She said she was trying to hide her relationship with Staff Sgt. John R. Fahlgren, 35, of Chicago. Fahlgren last week pleaded guilty to failure to obey a lawful general regulation, sodomy, lar ceny, obstruction of justice, pos session of an illegal substance and adultery. Another woman, a friend of the first, said Daniels asked her to join him and her friend in three way sex, but she refused. She said Daniels got her and her friend off mess hall duty so they could all have sex together. Both women admitted they had a history of breaking regula tions while in training, and lying to cover each other's tracks. Three other noncommis sioned officers at Fort Wood have been convicted or pleaded guilty to sex-related charges involving trainees. All three were sentenced to a bad conduct discharge and prison time. Eleven other Fort Wood non commissioned officers were charged in the military sex scan dal, which first came to light in November at the Army Ordnance * Center at Aberdeen, Md. Twelve instructors there were charged with criminal sexual misconduct. At Fort Leonard Wood, four more court martials were sched uled in May and June, and one soldier is awaiting a trial date. The six other cases involved less serious offenses and were at dif ferent stages of investigation.
