CHAPTER GETS CHARTER — The Lt. Col. Robert De Treville Chapter, Children of the Confederacy, received its charter in a re cent ceremony and also installed new officers of the organization. Highway Patrolman S. M. John son said it was raining at the time of the accident, the pavement was wet, and no arrests were made. He said the drivers and the ve hicles they were operating were Fmma Ann Varsho, 16, of Route 2, Durin in a 1957 Chevrolet and Seth Douglas Allen, 20, of Route 1, Ben ron, in a 1957 Oldsmoblle. The patrolman said both cars Were going north at the time of the mishap. He said the Oldsmo bile has stopped to wait for on coming traffic to make a left turn end was struck in the rear by the Chevrolet. Damages were estimated at $100 *o the Chevrolet and $5° to the Oldsmoblle. Harnett Cotton Tour Scheduled On Thursday Sept. 24, a cotin I ty - wide cotton tour will be host to a large number of farmers who will see several all - prac tice demonstrations. It was announced that a public meeting will be held in the Eller Mem orial Baptist Church in Greens boro on October 1st to “hear the other side” of the proposals. Although the Convention last | fall failed to adopt a proposal that would allow Wake Forest College to have some non-Bap tl6t trustees, the Council on Chrl- i 1 ■ ■ . -T sti*n Education considered the matter with relation to all seven Baptist Colleges In North Carolina. The result a as that the Council has recommended that all the col leges be permitted to have as many aa one-fourth of their trustees selected without the requirements of residence to North Carolina or membership in a Bantlst Church afiliated with the Convention. The Council also proposed that all the colleges be permitted to participate In the Higher Education Facilities Act, which is federal aid <o education. In announcing the meeting to day, the Rev. Tom M. Freeman, pastor of the First Baptist Ch urch of Dunn, stated that "W have received material from the Council on Christian Education concerning those two proposals. We want to have a careful look at the other side before time to make a decision at the Convention. “An effort will be made to clear ly present both sides of these vi tal issues.
