R. P. Reeder burned "Man Of Year" 12th Annual Awards Banquet Highlights Omega’s Achievement Week By James Peeler Post Feature Writer Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Inc. held its 12th Annual Awards Banquet last Friday night in the Omni Room of the Sheraton Center at McDowell Street and In dependenc e Blvd. The 7 to 10 affair, which began with a cocktail hour, was participated in by Epsilon Zeta Chapter of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Rho Chapter at Johnson C. Smith University, and Pi Phi Chapter, the well-known fraternity’s graduate chapter. Approximately 150 mem bers of Omega Psi Phi Frat ernity, and their guests, dined from a menu of Roast Sirloin of Beef, Baked Potato, Broc coli, Tossed Salad, Apple Pie, Dinner rolls, and an assort ment of drinks, before hearing guest speaker William A. McMillan, President of Rust College, Holly Springs, . Mississippi, who is a Co-Chair man of the fraternity’s Na tional Achievement Week Committee. Guest speaker McMillan was introduced by past Pi Phi Chapter Basileus Gerson L. Stroud and spoke on the Major Problems of the Sevent ies-Dishonesty, Immorality, and The Use Of Dope." This year's “Omega Man Of The Year” award went to Robert P. "Pete” Reeder and his plaque was presented by last year’s winner, Joseph Harper, III. “Omega Man Of The Year” Reeder lives at 1538 Waddell Street. He attended Fairview Elementary School and West Charlotte High School. He is a 1950 graduate ol Johnson C. Smith University with a major in Elementary School and has been a member of the frater nity since 1952. The honoree is married to the former Dallie Jones and they have two children; Robert P. Reeder Jr., 21, a Sgt in the Army stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington; and Orvin K. Reeder, 19, a Junior at Johnson C. Smith Univer sity. Award recipient Reeder is active in the affairs ot his church, Brandon Presbyter ian Church, serves as its Clerk of Session, teaches Sunday School, sings on the choir, and is Past Moderator of Catawba Presbytery. The Outstanding Rho "Man Of The Year" award went to James Hicks and was present ed by Rho Chapter Basileus Gregory Thigpen. Robert Scott was awarded —tne outstanding Epsilon Zeta "Man Of The Year” plaque by chapter Basileus Kenneth Parks. An "Award To Twenty-Five Year Brothers” was given to Lloyd Seigler; Seigler was not present and the award was accepted in his behalf by Tennyson Johnson from Horace Maxwell. Five fraternity members received “Award To Forty Year Brothers” from past re cipient Thomas M. “Jack” Martin. They were: Alvin Kennedy, Moses S. Belton, Joseph Belton, Matthew Shute and Zoel S. The trout in the aerated pond range in the pound to pound and a half category; they are scrappy fighters and the pond is stocked so numerously tnat almost every cast produces a pan-size rain bow trout.
