Mar shall Humanitarian Award Thursday night at the Fourth Annual Awards Dinner of the Harlem Commonwealth Coun- - cil, held at the Biltmore Hotel. A. Philip Randolph received the Founders Award. Receiv ing special recognition were Councilman Robert Rodri quez, Public Service Award, Edward (Porkchop) Davis, Community Service Awards, Ms. Ruth Sanchez, Business Award and Carver Federal Savings & Loans Assn., Bank ing Award. "Black America on Stage," an exhibition and symposia tracing the development of black theater in America, has opened at the City University Graduate Center's Mall, 33 W. 42nd St. The free exhibition, which includes over 180 photo graphs and enlarged mater ials including posters, books, ' scripts, costumes, letters and playbills, will be on view to the public through Dec. 8. Free lectures in auditorium through Nov. 15. The Negro Ensemble Com pany has sent out an urgent plea for financial cootribu ■ ttons to insure completing its' planned full year's produc tion for 1978-79. At the Henry Street Settle ment Urban Life Center, the Family Theater is presenting "Mio", a ne# musical play by Shauneille Perry with music by Julius Williams, Saturday and Sunday, ttov. 18,19,25 and ». In Hollywood, musician Buddy Miles, 30, was senten ced to two years in prison after pleading no contest to charges of grand theft and auto theft. Grand theft charge came when Miles allegedly left a North Hollywood store without paying for some appa Harlem's Cotton Club has changed its policy. Showing there now is "Sepia Star", or "Chocolate Comes to the Cot ton Club," a new musical with book by Ed Bull ins, music and lyrics by Mildred Kayden. The play is about a young modern art star who isn't sure she can face up to fame, inaugerates the new show policy at the club. "Julius Sees Her In Rome, Georgia", is playing the Har lem Performance Center, showcased by the Arts and Cultural Performing Unsem ble. The book and music was written by Professor Edward Boatner. Musical is produced by Leonard Parker and direc ted by Gertrude Jannette. It's "A Very Special Even ing With Melba Moore" on Sunday, Nov. 26, at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. Melba, who spends as much time talking as spokesperson for ITT's award-winning chil dren's TV show, "Big Blue Marble", as she does singing, will do one performance only this time out. She should be a sellout.
