Jazz Comes Aliw On WTVÎ Jazz continuée to grow among younger listening audiences, and still holds great sway with its legion of Igyal fa» Freddie Hubbard has made a name as the trumpet star of the Seventies. He won a Grammy award in 1973 for his album, Fisrt Light. With his recent mixture of rock, rhy thm and blues and electronic sounds in jazz, the trumpeter has continued the jazz tradi tion and taken tbe music to new territory. Uke Hubbard; guitarist Pat Metbeny is talked of as a leader in contemporary mus ic. An electric and acoustic guitarist of great depth and imagination, the young Metheny has won numerous awards since his professional debut in the late Sixties. After earning his stripes with seve ral established groups, Met heny struck out on his own. His work combining the expre ssiveness at jazz and the ener gy of rock has marked Methe ny as an important "fusion" musician. "Every Tub on Its Own Bottom" is a presentation of KLRN-Austin. Contemporary Jazz is high lighted when trumpet great Freddie Hubbard and guitar virtuoso Pat Metheny present the fast-paced "Every Tub on Its Own Bottom," airing over WTVI, Channel 42. The hour special is offered to public television statiori*by the Pub lic Broadcasting Service. "Every Tub on Its Own Bottom," which takes its name from a traditional ex pression meaning "Every man for himself, features Hubbard and Metheny perfor ming in-the-round. This infor mal atmosphere allows both musicians to experiment free ly with the range of sounds which constitute America's ' "true classical music." Metheny and Hubbard live up to their reputations as the finest instrumentalists in their field.
