Timely Hints By RUTH CURRENT A summer vacation for curtains that have been on the job all win ter is recommended by textile i specialists this year when cur tains ar almost impossible to re place. Open season for windows is a hard season on curtains. th:i spe-, cialists explain. In strong sum mer sunlight, draperies may fade, 1 and glass curtains rot. Blowing ! against screens, and dust and rain J j from open windows are all hair d ' Ion curtains. When draperies and gloss cur tains are taken down, a light surii- ; I mer set may be pul up Or, an | old set may be used. Minor re-1 i pairs won’t show when these old curtains are pushed back to let in as much air as possible. Or. j as a third possibility, particularly j where summers are hot, many families prefer to leave windows i curtainless. Cotton draperies may be washed if they are ui'lined, fast | color, and preshrunk. Try to have other draperies dry clean ed. A good way to keep draoer ies from wringling or crushing in storage is to fold lengthwise and hang them over tie horizon-1 tal bar of a coat hanger padded with paper. Seveial pairs can then be slipped into a large pa per bag. Fold up and pin the open end of the bag Then hang the draperies in a closet where the paper covering won’t get torn. It is best to have fragile net and lace curtains- -either cotton or rayon—dry cleaned. If they .must be laundered at home, the specialists advise washing them in a large muslin or mesh bag, using mild, lukewaim suds. Unless curtains can be roiled Classified Ads FOR SALE—Registered Guern sey bull, born October 9, 1944. His sire, Klondike Legacy, is a grandson of Argilla Knight.
