High Times By CAROL STANLEY And JEANN1NE KIN (VIDE By: CAROL STANLEY AND •IEANNIN E KINCAIDE The baseball team has been having quite a bit of hard luck for the last couple of weeks. Let's hope they have a winning streak soon. Tire Lions Club will honor players on the various teams at an athletic banquet on Thursday night. This will be the first of this kind in quite a while and the students really appreciate it. The senior class minstrel was quite a hit. Everyone who at tended seemed to be well pleased with the performance. With all the corny jokes, painted faces and bright colors, it was really hilarious. Maybe you’d like to hear about the main event of the week ending April 30. A lot of excitement was caused by preparations for the junior-senior banquet. This was tHe most talked about subject of the month. The outcome was well worth the work and worry. We know that the juniors and Mrs. Williams were really pleased. The gym was beautifully decorated and the dance afterwards was truly enjoyable and the music, if you'll pardon the expression, was “real gone.” This was the fourth banquet that Mrs. Williams has sponsored and they become more beautiful every year. The waiters aad waitresses drew a lot of com plements and they also carried the theme of the banquet to the lifait. The gowns were strikingly beautiful, and there were a va riety of styles and colors. .See you next week, Folks. Thre’s a lot of school work to be done before the end of this tep'pi. I I BtLUNLo IN YOUR KITCHEN . . THE NEW TftPPAN, 2802 FRONT ST. W ILMINGTON, N. C. I, Let’s Support Our Neighbor ALTON LENNON FOR UNITED STATES SENATOR His appointment by Governor William B. Umstead was an honor not only for Lennon and Hew Hanover County, but for Southeastern North Carolina as well. We, in this section, deserve representation among the high public officials of our State, and the appointment of Alton Lennon is the first such honor we have had on a State or National level in more than a quarter century. We can show our apprecia tion by giving him our support. Alton Lennon is young and able and honest. He has the vigor and ambition of a youthful man, and there is a prospect for long years of intelligent, influential service from him in the United States Senate. Already he has gained one year of precious seniority. He is a lawyer of recognized ability and was a valuable member of the State Legislature during his service in this important body. He has served for almost one year in the United States Senate and has gained the confidence and respect of his colleagues. He is the type of man info whose hands we can safely entrust the future welfare of our Nation. He is honest. No record can be found where he was willing to sacrifice principle for political expediency. He has a friendly, straightforward manner that holds no brief for double-talk nor double-cross. We Know Alton Lennon as Our Friend and Neighbor. He has an Intimate Knowledge of Brunswick County Citizens and their Needs. We can talk to him man to man about our prob lems and he can and will help us as our United States Senator. LETS GIVE HIM OUR LOYAL SUPPORT! (BRUNSWICK COUNTY COMMITTEE FOR ALTON LENNON)
