[personals Mrs. Samuel Bullock is under Ctang observation at Transylvania Community hospital and she ex pects to return to her home on Thursday. Miss Patsy Maley, of Asheville, spent the week end with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Fraser. Mrs. James F. Aycock, who un derwent surgery at Greenville Ceneral hospital, is reported to be improving. Her daughter, Mrs. George Perkins, Jr., remains with her. Mrs. Jackie Allison was called to Swannanoa last week due to the critical illness of her uncle, T. J. Hunter. Mrs. Alice Paxton also visited Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Hunter at Swan nanoa la6t week end. Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Galloway ’were called to Travelers Rest, S. Tuesday due to the death of Mr. Galloway’s father. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Kelley and daughter, Ann, have returned from a vacation trip to Davtona Beach, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. A1 Montville and son, Don, of Sidney, Ohio, former Brevard residents, arrived Wednes day for a visit with friends here. They are staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Kitchen. Mrs. A. R. (Queen) Gillespie left last week to spend the remain der of the winter in Bradenton, Fla. J. E. Smith, manager of Belk’s department store, is spending sev eral days this week in Charlotte on business. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Plummer are spending a vacation in Florida. Miss Joan Teague, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Teague, spent last week end in Raleigh as a guest of the faculty, administration and students of Peace college. She, dong with other visitors, was en tertained at parties, dinner and a program of music as well as the annual Stunt Night program. Goodwin was hostess to the last meeting of the Matha tasian club Thursday at which time Mrs. Walter Hart gave a pro gram on “The Communist Theory of Man.” Mrs. Hart stated that it was hard to explain the mystery after study ing communistic ideas of man. She sketched the life of Karl Marx and gave his theories. He believed labor to be the primary factor in the modification of man and it is a necessary element in affecting ma terial changes between man and nature, according to the Marx the ory. Marx believed, the program lead er said, in the class struggle be tween opposites. The logical con clusion of this reasoning was that the state is supreme and man is merely a tool of the state. Mrs. Hart read excerpts from “Faith vs. The Human Animal” by Monsignor Vincent Sheen, in which she contrasted the democratic the ory of supremacy of the individual with the communistic theory. Guests at the meeting were Mrs. Ralph Ramsey, district president, and Mrs. Lewis Hamlin, district secretary. Mrs. Ramsey spoke brief ly urging the women to attend the civil defense meeting in Raleigh. At the conclusion the hostess served a delicious salad course. The next meeting will be January 28th with Mrs. 0. H. Orr hostess. Silver Tea Set At Mrs. Mark Crosswell’s There will be a silver tea at the home of Mrs. Mark Crosswell at Ce dar Mountain next Tuesday after noon at 2:00 o’clock for the bene fit of the March of Dimes drive. It is explained that the Mothers March on Polio at Cedar Mountain is being replaced by the tea since the roads are in bad condition. MOTHERS MEET The Gold Star Mothers chapter will have their regular meeting Tuesday night, January 26, at 7 p. m., with Mrs. E. V. Fowler. All Gold Star Mothers are invited. W. Bonnell, finan cial secretary. R. L. Brock Now On USS Rochester Rev. and Mrs. Millard I. Brock, Rt. 2, Brevard, have received a letter from the commanding offi cer of the ship in which their son, Roger L. Brock, is serving with the U. S. navy. Captain John Quinn, command ing officer of the USS Rochester, states that young Brock is learn ing his way around the ship and apparently is enjoying his life at sea. Hospital Is Described 4s Being As Modern 4s Any In The South John W. Bailey, administrator of the Transylvania Community hos pital, told members of the Brevard Rotary club at the last regular meeting that the local hospital is now as modern as any in the South with the opening of the new Har ry H. Straus wing. Mr. Bailey took the Rotarians on a verbal tour of the hospital, point ing out that in every room, includ ing the lounge, nursery, operating suite, wards, kitchen, etc., the in stitution is equipped with the most modern equipment on the market today. He thanked the Rotarians and the public in general for their fine cooperation and support of the hos pital and said: “It is your hospital and please feel free to visit and to inspect its modern facilities.” Attendance at the dedication program on Sunday at 3:00 p. m. at the Brevard high school was urged at the meeting, and the speaker was introduced by John Anderson, program chairman of the evening. President Dan Hawkins presided. A large delegation from the West Asheville Rotary club was present at the meeting. GIRL SCOUT NEWS TROOP 78 MEETS At the meeting of Troop 78 in the Little House Monday night, the girls tried to think of someone who would serve as leader since Mrs. Kent told them she could not meet with them much longer. They also made plans for the an nual Valentine dance. A play was given by Rosemary Thompson’s patrol. The meeting ended with taps.
