The Editor Let Us Do Your Job Printing Patrolman Stephen Alfred Talmadge, of the Brevard Po lice Department, has recently completed the Chemical Testa for Alcohol Technical Supervis or School, sponsored by the State Department of Commun ity Colleges and given by the Adult Education Division of the Davidson County Commun ity College at Lexington. Patrolman Talmadge was already a certified Breathalyz er technician before attending this latest school. The comple tion of this course qualified him to serve as technical supervis or of other Breathalyzer opera tors and administer a Chemical Tests for Alcohol section. His course also covered mainten ance of the Breathalyzer equip ment. A Brevard native. Officer Talmadge is a graduate of Bre vard High School and attended the University of North Caro olina !v two years. He was employed by the Chapel Hill Police department while attending college. He served as a security guard at Sky City for nine months after returning to Brevard and be fore joining the Brevard Police Department. He received his basic Chemi cal Tests for Alcohol training at Haywood Technical Institute while with the local police de i partment. Officer Talmadge is married to the former Lynda Galloway of Brevard. They live on Park View Drive. Middle School PTA To Meet Next Tuesday Brevard Middle School PTA President Clifford Frady an nounces the final meeting of the year. It will be held on Tuesday, May 28th, in the High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The eighth grade band will perform after the meeting. President Frady will install the new PTA officers and will present the DAR Good Citizen ship Award and Outstanding Eighth Grade Achievement Award. PRICES START AT Recycling Program Going Well, Sapphire-Whitewater By - Wallace Brewer SAPPHIRE - WHITEWATER —The Recycling program of the Sapphire-Whitewater Commun ity Development Club ia prog ressing with an other successful week of collecting cardboard, clear glass, green glass, maga zines and paper. These recycl ing items may be left at the Community Chib on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Sapphire - Whitewater youth worked on the clean-up project at the “Beach” on Whitewater Falls Road on Saturday. They collected 410 pounds erf trash of which was taken to the dump by Mel Dann who supervised the project. We wish to remind the public that uses the camp sites on Sapphire road and at the “Beach" area on Whitewater Falls road that these camp sites are privately owned and that to use these sites is a privilege and your co-operating in help ing to keep them clean will be appreciated. We understand that at the Whitewater Falls Scenic Na tional Park that plans have been previously made for im provements including camp sites. Never the less keeping all camp sites as dean as possible will be appreciated. The youth co-operating in collecting trash at the “Beach” area last Satur day along with Mel and Bev Dann were Tim and Suzy Han sley and Vincent and Edward Jack. Wallace Brewer put new aluminum bolts in the direc tional sign at the junction of U.S. *64 and Whitewater Falls road depicting the arrows to Brevard and to Cashiers. “Have a Happy Day Every One!” Bev and Dann welcomed the Frank Davs back to Bearwallow Springs with a dinner Tuesday evening. Dot and Walter McNeely took an interesting trip on Mother’s Day and Dot had an interesting day at Cherokee on the follow ing day. Mr. and Mrs. Erik O. Hansen have learned that their younger son, Eugene B. Hansen of Bethel, Connecticut, received his Masters Degree in Business Administration, majoring in ac counting, from the University of Connecticut on May 12th. Mrs. Anna Cole and daughter, Mrs. Thelma Hawk, former owners of Mt. Toxaway Lodge at Sapphire and now from Bradenton, Fla., are vacation ing in the Hansens mobile home across from the Sapphire Post Office. On Sunday, Mav 12th. the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oakley Farver were their son, Mark Farver, of Brevard, Mr. and Mrs. Erik D. Hansen, of Bosnian, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Dickens and daughter, Rosalee, of Greenville, S. C., and Erik O. Hansen of Sapphire. (Hester eras too side to attend and she missed a mighty fine dinner of bartoequed turkev and fixings). John and Vera Miller have been vacationing at the Bert Brooks cottage on Bearwa!low Drive.
