NEW HOPE NEWS Harris, R-l, Jan. 6.—Mr. L. D. Wilkie, Mr. W. P. Wilkie and Mr. Woner Hopper were visitors in Ruth erf ordton Friday. A number of the young folks en joyed a cotton picking at the fyome of Mrs. Bertha Roach Tuesday night. Among those present were: Misses Lois and Lila Mae Hines, Belle Wil kie, Eunice and Bernice Ro-ach and Opal Turner, Messrs. George and Theron Jolley. A. J. and Hoyt Parri-i Marvin and Waldon Turner, Brough ton Strickland, Clifford Roach and Marvin Mitchem and Willis Hines. Mrs. Lellit Bankhead and little son, Benard, of Sharon, S. C., spent last week at Mr. C. M. Harris'. We are glad to have Mr. T. E. Randall and family with u.|, who moved here last week from near Harris. Miss Belle Wilkie spent Tuesday night with Misses Eunice and Bernice Roach. Miss {Vivian Kennedy has been sick for a few days, her friends will be sorry to hear. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Harrill and daughters, Misses Mae, Maude and Pauline, spent Thursday at Mr. L. D. Wilkies. Mrs. 0. C. Smith, of Spindale, visited her aunt, Miss Idella Lancas ter one day last week. A number of the young folks en joyed a party at the home of Misses Cleo and Virgie Cudd. Saturday night. Little Howard and Harvey Wilkie spent Thursday with their grand mother, Mrs. L. D. Wilkie. Mr. Alexander was married .recently to Miss Cora Lee Crosley of Lyman, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Deane Shehan are spending several cays with Mr. S*ie han's sister and family at Charles ton, S. C. Mr. C. H. Kennedy and family of Charlotte, visited Mr. Kennedy's father, Mr. Gaither Kennedy and family during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Putnam Mr. and Mrs. Tom Weese have just re turned from a motor trip to Atlan ta, Ga., and Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. Charles Alexander, student at Mars Hill college, spent the Christ man holidays with his parents here and relatives at Shelby. Mr. Robert Watkins and family moved to Cliffside last week. JACK THORNTON SPARKS, AGED SIX MONTHS, DEAD Ruth, Jan. 6.—-Jack Thornton Sparks, the six-months old son of Mr. and Mrs. Sparks, of this place, died December 31, and was buried the following day at Shiloh Baptist church.
