Parley, one of the victims of the accident at the State Hospital, and who died ,,n the night of the 4th, was native oi wermanv, was an ex- Confederate soldier and was 7 Years old. His remains wa re taken to Stanley Creek, (r iston county, for burial. Capt. S. D. Mr. McKession Pays a Glowing TkibutetoAunt Delphia Giles. Mr. C. P. McKesson, of the War Depart ment, Washinir ton, D. C, who is here this week on a visit-to his family, called to see us on Tuesday and as -we chatted on old times and he inquired about old friends, the death of Aunt Delphia Giles was mentioned. He spoke of his great sorrow when he read the announce ment of her death, as he had alwavs thougth so much of the family and had often partaken of their hospitality. Continu ing" he said: "Aunt Delphia was one of the uncrowned queensof theearth. She bore many children and was largely instrumental in so rearing them that they became as olive plants about her table, the comfort of her declining years. She knew nothing of the great social world, its charms, it glitter, its classic culture, but she knew enough to make a loyal wife, an evangel of the Master. For well nigh 50 years she kept brightly burning- on her altars and hearth stone that spiritual fire which alone is the priceless jewel. Mr. Kavlor was almost sev enty vears of age and labored tauhfully in the cause of the -Master lor many years. The remains were laid to rt in the ifravevard at Little Jnnns church last Sunday in l-e presence of a larg-e con "iirse of sorrowing" friends. Rev. G. W. Ivey conducted :;-e iuneral ceremonies. Miss Mary Lou Bristol is at home from Asheville Female College. Mr. E. Rreese is able to be at his store again, after several days' sick ness. Mr. W. M. Moore, who taught at Amherst last year, has decided to take the school for the coming year. Mr. and Mrs. Derr Boger are now residing in Morganton, having moved here from Salisbury last week. Mr. W. B. Sloan, who is employed for awhile in Salisbury, spent several days this week at his home in Morgan- ton. Mr. R. D. Meacham, of Asheville, arrived Wednesday and is spending several days here with his brother Mr. Watt Meacham. The Misses Haynes, who attended school at the State Normal College last session, will visit in Mt. Airy for awhile before coming home. Mrs. Thomas S.
