Excess Wheat Penalty $1.59 The marketing quota penalty rate for 1062 excess wheat will be $1.59 per bushel, W. S. Smi ley,' chairman of the ASCS Committee, announced yester day. He said this compares with the 1961-crop penalty rate of $1.08 per bushel. When wheat marketing quo tas are in effect as they are for 1962 crop wheat, the law requires penalties on excess wheat production at the rate of 65 percent of parity as of May 1 of the crop year. The rate announced today reflects 65 percent of the May wheat parity price of $2.44 per bushel. The Agricultural Act of 1961 increased the rate of penalty to 65 percent of parity. Prev iously, the penalty rate had been set at 45 percent of par ity by law. This rate times a farm's wheat excess, expressed in bushels, determines the ac tual amount of penalty. Smiley pointed out that some 15 acres or less of wheat m/y be subject to quota penalty on their product as a result of changes made in the law for 2962. Previously, producers on farms harvesting less than 15 arcis of wheat were not sub ject to penalties. For 1962, small farms (13.5 acres or less of wheat) on which the 1962 wheat acreage is higher than the highest acre age in any of the three years, 1959, 1960, and 1961, will, in most cases, be subject to pen DIAL 303-1 FOR A RECORD WANT AD LOST AND FOUND LOST ?
