vzgmaem \ Soil Conservation Week Being i Observed During May 19 to 25 By NAT WHITE Soli Conservationist The week of May 19 to 26 is Soil Stewardship Week. This observance is sponsored in North Carolina by the N. C. State Association of Soil and Water Conservation Dis tricts. This years theme "We turn our eyes to the future" is very appropriate in view of what happened to other nations. Ministers and lay men throughout the nation arc urging people .to recog nize that God is the Creator and Sustainer of our natural resources; our soils, water, and related resources. We that own and use these re sources are responsible to God to be good stewards and to conserve and improve these natural resources for future generations. Donald A. Williams, Ad ministrator U. S. Soil Con servation Service, challenges us to be good stewards of our resources by reminding us that "today we are placing more demands on our land and water resources than ever before. New housing spreads out from cities into once-agricultural lands. New industries look for locations where water is plentiful. Non farm folks look for open, green places for recreation and relaxation. Air condition ing systems and other modern improvements call for increas ing amounts of water. These plus demands not yet en visioned provide the challen ges and opportunities." "It is up to us, as good stewards, to develop the po tential richness of our soil and water resources. Con serve them we must, but con serving them means using WE TURN OUR EYES TO THE FUTURE them to fulfill our needs. I with a great trust. All of us? Future generations will thus | not just a few of us?have be grateful for the blessings I the responsibility for steward that have been ours and are ship and to plan for our theirs." needs for today and the "We have been endowed future.'
