• •• Warren Plaza News By MARTHA PAGE It wai a cold, rainy Easter Sunday and the residents were all very disappointed because they were not able to 'lave their annual Easter egg hunt. We had a special Easter worship Sunday morn ing and another Sunday afternoon. Special treats were furnished by the Home Life Depart ment of the Macon Wo man's club. Mrs. Henry Fuller and her club members never forget us on holidays and we are very grateful to them. She has never for gotten a holiday since I have been here. We have some beautiful flower ar rangements in our living room sent to us by Mrs. Helen Rooker from Norlina, and we thank her so much. She also brought us some very useful clothing items. Mrs. Belle Cooper also brought us some very nice useable clothing, and we want to say "thank you" to her. We have also received a large supply of items for the beauty shop from the ladies of the Warren ton Baptist Church and these were certainly ap preciated. We try not to miss anyone who donates anything for the residents to use, but at times we fail to get the donor's name. We apologize for this and hope we don't offend anyone. Everyone has been very kind to donate things to us that the residents cannot afford to buy for themselves. We have some of our residents in the hospital as we have had a severe flu epidemic going around the rest home. Albert Mitchell is in the N. C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, Jessie McCurry is in Warren General and Walter Rivers is home from Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Va. We had a large num ber of visitors Sunday and some of our people were home for the holiday. Residents having visitors Sunday were: Mina Reid, Pearl Bob bin, Harvey Carroll, Edgar Bullock, Mollie Dye, Louise Kearney, Walter and Eula Rivers, Nettie Wilson, Pattie Arrington, Joseph Ayscue, Harvey Richardson, John Patrick, Selby Price, Otis Shearin, Addie Rowe, Tommie Harris and Charlie Smith. We hope you all had a very happy Easter and until next week, God bless. It is a chronic disease which is often neglected, and it is our intention at the Warren County Health Department to stop the neglect of this disease. There are two ways in which we hope to do this. First, an arthritis clinic is conducted each month at our health department with Dr. William E. Byrd, rheumatologist, offering patient examination. Through the examina tion, Dr. Byrd is able to make his recommenda tions for treatment. The individual entering this clinic also receives basic education about arthritis, so he can bet ter understand his disease. This clinic is open to all individuals in Franklin, Vance and Warren counties. Secondly, we will be conducting an arthritis workshop or conference, free for the general public. This conference will be held Wednesday, May 2, at the Warrenton Lions Den from 7:00 p. m. until 9:30 p. m. The Warrenton Lion's Den is located at the fair grounds on West Ridgeway St. (beside Hardee's). Speakers for the conference include Dr. Byrd, rheumatolo gist, Mark Thome, oc cupational therapist, and personnel from the Arthritis Program. Time will be given for participants to ask questions of these pro fessionals. If you're an arthritis sufferer, please come and learn more about your disease. Do not hesitate to bring family and friends with you. For more information contact Katherine Billiard or Rebecca Greene at 257-1185 or your local health de partment. Keeping Healthy Bartender Care for Hiccups A medical journal gives physician readers a "prescrip tion" dispensed by bartend ers for cure of hiccups. "Saturate one lemon wedge with angostura bitters and quickly eat all but the rind." Stubborn cases may re quire a second dose, but ac cording to an item in the American Family Physician, the hiccup remedy "with a twist" relieved the hiccups in l4of 16individuals.
