The Pfeiffer College Handbell Choir will ap pear in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Wesley Manorial United Methodist Church in Warren ton. The performance, which is open to the public without charge, is part of the 12-member choir's March tour of the East Coast. Comprised of both music majors and non-music majors from the college, located in Misenheimer, the group is directed by Marvin Burke, associate professor of music. The choir has toured every year since its in ception in 1978, perform ing throughout the Southeast. In addition, its members have made television appearances and regularly give per formances at area high schools as well as two performances annually at the college. "Because of our wide ly varied program and the talented young peo ple in the group, we have always been well receiv ed wherever we have played," Burke said. The program will in clude both sacred and secular music, including "To Music" by David Stanley York, "Festive Overture by Alice Proct or, "Christ the Lord Is Risen Today" by Lyra Davidica, "Send in the Clowns" by Stephen Sondheim, and "Holiday for Strings" by David Rose. Founded in 1885, Pfeif fer is a four-year, Methodist-related in stitution of arts and sciences and selected professional studies with an enrollment of 800 on campuses in Misenheim er andjCharlotte. "BeUTftave-feecome a very important part of church music in the United States," Burke said, "so they are an im portant part of the . educational experience of the many Pfeiffer students who prepare for careers in church music."
