It is evident from this finding that the health professionals of this area have an enor mous job on hand in the detection and control of high blood pressure. Nonetheless, progress is being made toward the reduction of heart disease in Warren Coun ty and strides will con tinue in this direction as local citizens and health professionals join the staff of the Warren Coun ty Health Department in educating the public about high blood pressure. Millions of Americans across the nation have high blood pressure. This disease, if uncontrolled, can lead to other health problems, among them heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, kidney failure and heart failure. More than 770,000 deaths annually can be at tributed in some way to high blood pressure. The theme, for the eleventh year of National High Blood Pressure Month is, "Make Control Your Lifetime Goal." Since there is no cure for high blood pressure, con trol of the disease after its detection is of greatest importance. High blood pressure is especially dangerous because it has no signs or symptoms. A person usually does not know he has the disease because it does not hurt and it rarely causes dizziness nervousness, or head aches. Therefore, many people have high blood pressure for years with out knowing it, and eventually suffer the physical effects of the disease. For this reason, it is most important that everyone have a regular blood pressure checkup, and if it is high, to follow the prescribed treat ment. The staff of the Warren County Health Depart ment invites all in terested persons to have their blood pressure checked at one of the following community blood pressure screening locations during May: May 3, Boyce Drug Co., 12 noon; May 6, Perry PerneU's Grocery, Afton Community, 12-2 p. m.; May 13, Haithcock Brothers Grocery, Macon, 10 a. m.-2p. m.; May 15, Warrenton Nutrition Site Council for Senior Citizens of War ren County, Hawkins Elementary School, 11:30 a.m.; May 17, Leg gett Department Store, Warrenton, 12-4 p. m.; May 20, Buchanan's Store, Drewry/County Line Community, 10 a. m.-2 p. m.; May 22, Ar eola Nutrition Site, Old haliwa School, 11 a. m.; and May 31, Amos L.
