Miss Eddie Kerley spent a few days visiting in Salisbury last week. Verne Blackwelder is at home from Mercersburg, Pa., for the holi days. Mr. Archie Kent, who is teaching at Oak Hill, spent the week end at home. Miss Annie King left yesterday to ppend the holidays at her home at Denver. Marcus Greer came from the A. and E. College last Saturday for the holidays. Miss Ethel Greer, who is teaching at Olivette, was in town Saturday shopping. Miss Maude Minish has arrived from Greensboro to spend the holi days here. Miss E. Covington left Saturday morning for Louisville, Ky., to spend the holidays. A. Y. Cottrell came home from Chapel Hill last Thursday to spend the holidays. Mrs. C. E. Corpening went to Charlotte last Sunday to have her throat treated. Houston Squires is at home from Branham Hughes Military Academy for the holidays. Miss Estelle Warlick left last Fri day for her home at Granite Falls to spend the holidays. Miss Inez Abernathy of Mt. Holly spent last week visiting her sister, Mrs. C. C. Stimson. Miss Daisy Armentrout of Roan eke, Va., is spending the holidays with her father and sister here. Mrs. Laura Blackwell and daugh ter of Waynesville are visiting Mrs. H. C. Martin and other relatives. R. C. May and Frederick Dula came home Monday night from the University to spend the holidays. Miss Mary Nelson came home Tuesday from Brenua College, Gainesville, Ga., for the holidays. Misses Dell Bernhardt and Alma Seagle are at home from Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Ga., for the holi days. Sam Dysart, Olin Bradshaw and Scott Brawley are at home from the A. and E. College at Raleigh for the holidays. Mesdames 0. D. Heffner, L. F. Stine, V. A. Healan, C. W. Ilailey and W. H. Jones spent Frid iy in Hickory. Mr. and Mrs. A. (i. Jona. Mr. and Mrs. T. II. Broyhill and ilrs. K. A. Link spent u few days in Charlotte this week. Mr. Dave Clark of Boydton, Va., arrived Monday to spend the holi days here. II :s many friends are glad to see him. Mrs. M. K. (lapen of Greenville, S. C, is stopping at the t'ariheim hotel. She will probably make her i home here. Mrs. Willis Boyd returned from Charlotte last Thursday, where she had been to see her husband, who is in a hospital there. Earl Heffner has returned from Lenoir College, Hickory, to spend the holidays with his home folks, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Heffner. Edward Covington came home yes terday from Davidson College to upend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Covington. Miss Lucile Abernethy, pianist for Rev.. Gypsy Smith, Jr., is at home to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Abernethy. Douglas Bernhardt came home yes terday from Davidson College to epend the holidays with his parents, Ivir. and Mrs. J. M. Bernhardt. Miss Carolyn Poe came home last Friday from Queens College, Char lotte, to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Poe. Miss Janie Maury Bernhardt is ex pected home from Wilmington to morrow to spend the holidays with her mother, Mrs. G. L. Bernhardt. Mrs. F. A. Thompsfn and daugh ter, Nancy, returned Sunday from Hickory, where they visited Mrs. Thompson's sister, Mrs. D. M. Williams. Mr. W. C. Moore and family of j Edgemont are expected here to spend the holidays with their son, Mr. W. C. Moore, Jr., and daughter, Mrs. C. E. Rabb. Miss Eva Lore, who has been here this fall taking art from Mrs. R. L. Gwyn, has gone to her home at Lin colnton to spend the holidays with her parents. Misses Emeline Goforth. Florrie Wilson, May Shearer and Mavis Goodman are home from North Car olina College, for Women to spend the holidays. Miss Oleana Hayes expects her fa ther and mother from Blowing Rock to spend the holidays with her here. She also expects her brother and his wife from Wilmington. Mrs. Mark Goforth and young son, Mark, Jr., left last Saturday for Hickory Grove, where they will spend Christmas with Mrs. Goforth's par ents, Rev. and Mrs. Myers. Miss Virginia Carter of Mitchell College, Statesville, arrived here Sunday and was met by her father, Dr. G. H. Carter. They then went on to their home at Grandin. Clyde and Ottis Hedrick, Dwight Blackwelder, Bowman Crisp, Moses Harshaw, Harold Corpening, Tom Warren and Kent Thomas arc at home from the University for the hol idays. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Blair and young daughter, Elizabeth Shearer, of Thomasville, are expected today to spend the holidays with Mrs. Blair's parents, Mr. snd Mrs. Milton Shearer. Mrs. B. H. Dula went to Statesville Saturday to visit her daughter, Ann, who is in Dr. Long's sanatorium, hav ing had an operation for appendicitis. The report is that she it getting along nicely. - ,. Miss Jewel Smith spent Saturday in Hickory shopping. Lee Spencer is at home from the west for the Christmas holidays. Mr. George Perkins of Adako was a business visitor in town Monday. Miss Mattie Whisnant left last Fri day for Henrietta to spend the hol idays. Miss Mamie Dwyre left Saturday for Winston-Salem to spend the hol idays. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Courtney of Hickory are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Courtney. Miss Marguerite Wright left for her home at Newton yesterday to spend the holidays. Misses Gertrude and Faith Court ney are at home from Converse Col lege to spend the holidays. Mark Squires ' went to Grandin Monday on business. . Ted Lenoir is at home for the hol idays from Pleasant Grove. S. C. Rev. R. M. Courtney of Thomas ville is visiting relativss- here for a few days this week. Mrs. C. F. Henderson of Mt Airy is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Tate, through the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Powell and son, Howard, of Thomasville, are expected to spend the holidays here with rela tives. Mrs. G. M. Goforth and Miss Mabel Goforth have returned from Burling ton and Thomasville, where they vis ited relatives. Mr. H. L. The hostess ! had arranged a very interesting list of questions to be answered with dif ferent parts of a Christmas tree, in which everyone entered enthusiasti cally. When these were finished Masters Charles Banks Hailey and Melvin Heffner took from the tree and presented to each one present a lovely recipe container. Mrs. Hailey, assisted by Mrs. Heffner, Misses Mildred Hailey and Gay Sherrill, served a delicious salad course, coffee and mints. The invited guests were Mesdames Teague, Pitts, Jones and Misses Lu cile Abernethy, Louise Todd, Lillie Healan and Mary Dysart.
