New building may cause health fee increase
By TOM V ATKINS
Mandatory health fees for UNC students
probably w ill increase $ 1 2 per academic year
as a result of action taken Friday by the
University's Board of Trustees.
The trustees unanimously approved plans
for financing and design of a new $4.1
million Student Health Building. The facility
w ould be financed on a 15-year bank loan of
no more than $4.1 million, with student fees
increased to help pay off the loan.
The method of funding still must be
approved by the state's Advisory Budget
Commission (ABC), while the student-fee
increase is subject to the approval of the
UNC system's Board of Governors. Students
now pay $75 in health fees per academic
The new three-story facility would be
built on a slope above the south side of the
Bell Tower parking lot. It would be
essentially the same size as the present
