In (ear of my life, I cannot di vulge the names In the following yarn. However, the conversation did take place and it's Just too good to pass up. Working on a story last week, I telephoned a woman for some information. Her five-year-old daughter answered. "Can I speak to your mother, honey," I requested. "Will you please call back lat er," the child said politely. "She can't come to the phone right now, she's on the pot." ? Jpb ? This hasn't been my week for driving. Flew over to Asheville last Fri | day on an errafid. I went in on an abandoned airstrip on the river, near where my in-laws live. I borrowed by father-in-law's car to go to downtown Asheville. Everywhere I went I was Infor med that my wife had telephon ed me and was trying to locate me. Finally she caught up with me. "Are you in jail yet?" she ask ed. "Nope! Why?" "Have you looked at the back of daddy's car?" she asked. "Nope!" "Well, it might be a good idea for you to," she explained. "You've got a 1957 license tag on it." I nearly dropped over in my tracks. "You mean . . "That's right. Daddy hasn't put his '58 tag on yet." Half-panicky, I made a beellne for where I had parked his car. My heart stopped beating. Three cars away from it sat a highway patrol car. Cautiously, I circled, looking the situation over. The pa trol car was empty. Thank good ness! I scooped up a handful of snow and piled it around the '57 license. And then I sweated out the ar rival of my father-in-law and the '58 tag. Heart beating normally again, I returned his car and flew back to Franklin, leaving my wife there | for the week end. Sunday morning I flew back to Dollar Day Savings CAR CUSHIONS $1.00 20 Cu. Ft. McSween and I met Sunday afternoon with Bob Cox, the talent scout for the Ed Sulli van show, and we ironed out some of the last-minute details of the appearance of the Cloggers Sun day night on television. Enthusiastically, Mr. Cox ex plained that he hopes this Is Just going to be the beginning of the "discovery" of some of this won derful talent we have down South. He himself is working night and day promoting the area. Everyone of us should pitch In and help him with this project. Even a postal card to Mr. Sullivan will help. We all know we've got the best to offer. Let's make the rest of the world aware of it. ? Jpb ?
