Community Meets Higdonville Community Develop ment Organization held its month ly meeting at . the picnic ground last Thursday night. The group enjoyed a picnic supper. The community honored Mr. and Mrs. Victor Teague with a stork shower. Special guests were Mrs. Arvey Be ay, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Seay, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ledford, and Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Teague. Refreshments of punch and cake were served after the gifts were opened. r Honors Daughter Mrs. >Dewitt Thompson honored her daughter. Annette, with a party on her ninth birthday Tues day. June 30. Quests were Patricia and Melba Bryson. Karen Moore. Charles Berry, Jimmy and Johnny Teem. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emelis Houston Jr., came up for him Sunday. Jerry Stewart, of Yellow Moun tain, spent several days last week visiting his aunt, Mrs. Sallic Moone. No. 1 the next week to 10 days. The proposals: <1) adding two new rings to the present storage tanks, (2) adding new rings to the pres ent tanks and building a new tank, (3) building two new tanks to the height of the present tanks. The Cole representative, Harold Dodson. explained that addini; two new rings to a tank would raise it from the present 40 feet to 56 feet and would increase the storage capacity from the present 153.000 gallons to 214.000. He used I the tank his company built on ? Golfview Drive as the basis for 1 his figures. Men Dismissed After a discussion and reports | on the on-duty activities of two of the four police officers. Nelson Ledford and Homer Cochran, the board unanimously ordered the dismissal of both men. Mr. Led ford was relieved of duty as of Tuesday morning. Mr. Cochran was given the choice of remaining on the force on a part-time basis until a replacement could be found. Chief Sid Carter told the alder men that he and the remaining officer, C. D. Baird. would double up on the shifts until the dis missed officers are replaced. Bids Opened Bids for a new garbage truck were opened. A low bid of $6,131. submitted by the Markham Equip ment Company, of Kernersville, was accepted. A "packer-type" bed Is used on the new piece of ev4JP ment and it is powered by a '59 Chevrolet six-cyclinder truck. Other Business In other business, aldermen ap proved a sewer tap for the new youth center; voted to again have town tags; programmed a work schedule for Herman Childers anil Kenneth Smith In the water and street department; rehired R. S. Jones as town attorney for an other year; and put two names on the street from Maple to the W. C. Graves home ? from Mapie to Dr. Edgar Angel's driveway the street will ge called Dogwood Drive, and from ? there to the Graves home. Summit Drive. Expenditures For Franklin Are Higher A budget of $159,268.42 has been approved by the Frank lin Board of Aldermen for 1959-60, an increase of $*. 865.92 over last year's. The tax rate was unchanged at $1.35 per hundred valua tion. This year's tax levy on paper is bringing in less than in 1957-58, from $47,870 to $46,523. Town Clerk Ray Swaf ford said this was caused by .a readjustment in property at first thought to be inside the city limits, but later dis closed to be outside.
