SOUTHERN PINES BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATION SERIES ALWAYS OPEN HELPS YOU SAVE H. B. Emery of Pinehurst, who has returned from the Niorth, says he is quite well satisfied with the outlook for the season. He has been renting some cottages including on the list some first comers. The Kiwanis con vention la^t week brought out a good delegation of visitors, giving the pre liminary opening of the Carolina a lively start. Mr. Fitzgerald reports the booking good at the house and is, like Mr. Emery, h,opeful of the season. Two conventions are appointed for Novem ber. The first date is the 12th and 13th, when the Southern Furniture manu facturers will come to Pinehurst f^r the first time. They are expected to bring a large delegation, and be the feature of that week. The following week November 16, 17, and 18, is as signed t,o the South Eastern Under- been coming to Pinehurst for several years. On December 4 and 5 the North Caro lina Cotton Manufacturers Association will return to Pinehurst for theif an nual meeting. They have been regular visitors for a number ,of years, and their coming, like that of the Under writers, is suggestive of old home weeks, frequently encountered in some communities. Medlin of Aberdeen has moved into his new office building near the Dixie Theatre. “Skyline,” the fiormer estate of James E. Swett on Route 50 between Lakeview and Southern Pines, is to be sold at Carthage on November 9th. The property has a commanding view of the Sandhills country, a commo dious and attractive house, numerous farm and, tenant buildings, a tennis court and spacious grounds. It was leased for a club last winter and many improvements made to the liouse. IT is time to begin planning for that log cabin you have been thinking a^ut. Vacation time suggests vacation dwellings, although a real log cabin is usable the year around. Considerable pleasure is to be de rived from the building of a log house. The process of construction is entirely different than other types of building. There is a pioneer feeling about creating a satisfactory shelter of logs. Unusual featiu'es and rustic touches are possible with the log house, whereas in the average soi't of vacation house so many things that are different can’t always be in dulged in. The cabin illustrated shows an odd use of rope as an architectural feature. The porch is screened and outside the screens rope is woven to remind one of a spider web. Knov/ing the pleasures to be had in the possession of a log cabin there is no need to shudder at the thought of be ing detained by this ropeweb as might be the case were it a spider’s pitfall for enemies. The cabin is conveniently laid out. T^'' porch will be ideal for dining. A large stu" window features the end of the living ror The oDen fireplace is massive, and con stof rough field stone. The kitchen is iarp- and has an outside door. Complete building plans and specifications are available for this house for $1.00. In cluded with the plans is a cardboard cut-out model of the house, architecturally drawn to scale. The model can be colored, and it will visualize for you exactly what the com pleted house will look like.
