BEN SLOAN, Society Editor- Beta Sigma Phi Honors Retiring President Members of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority honored their retiring president, Miss Edith Summerrow, with a surprise luncheon given at The Maples on Wednesday. Corsages of spring flowers were arranged on the table to form the name of the honor guest and to rcM'al the significance of the party. Thei-e were worn by the members during luncheon. Mrs. William Norris paid tribute t" Miss Summerrow and presented her with a silver bowl in behalf of the members. Miss Bernice Harrell, retiring secretary, and Mrs. Herbert Gib son, retiring treasurer, reported on the accomplishments of the so rority under the leadership of the outgoing president, and Mrs. Por ter Krady, speaking for the new members, expressed appreciation to Miss Summerrow. Miss Elizabeth Ray Is Bride Of Templeton Leckey Miss Elizabeth Perrin Ray, daughter of Mrs. William Davis Kay and the late Mr. Roy of Waynesville, became the bride of Bruce Templeton Leckey, son of Mrs. F.dith Locker Leckey and the late Mr. Leckey of Washington, D. C, in a ceremony performed at the First Presbyterian Church this morning at eleverr o'clock. The Rev. Malcolm R. THE WAYNES VILLE MOUNTAINEER Woman's Society Holds Annual Harvest Dinner The annual Harvest Day Dinner of the Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the First Methodist Church was held in the dining room of the church Monday eve ning. Honor guests for the occasion were Mrs. J. K. Boone, culy living charter member of the Society, the Rev. Russell L. Young, pastor, and Mrs. Young, and Dr. C. N. Clark. district superintendent, and Mrs. Ciark. Dr. Clark gave the opening in vocation and Mrs. Bonner Ray, president, presided and paid trib ute to the officers who have served during the past year. The tables were decorated with vases of pansies and gypsophilia and the officers' table was centered with a bowl of red roses. Reports were given by the presi dent and other officers as follows: Mrs. Guy Massie vice-president; Mrs. David Hyatt, recording secre tary; Mrs. Dewey Stovall, cor responding secretary; and Mrs. Hugh Massie, treasurer. Reports for circles were made by their chairmen and were Mrs. N. W. Garrett for Circle No. 1, Mrs. David Hyatt for Circle No, 2, Mrs. Claude Rogers for Circle No. 4, and Mrs. Howard Bryson for Circle No. 5. Mrs. James Atkins, Jr., chairman of the Wesleyan Guild reported for that group. Secretaries of various depart ments reporting were Mrs. Gar rett. Mrs. Ernest Hyatt, Mrs. Carl Munday, Mrs. J. II. Howell, Sr., Mrs. M. H. Bowles, and Mrs. S. H. Bushnell. Mrs. Massie presented a corsage to Mrs. Boone on behalf of the members of the Society and an nounced that flowers had been sent to Mrs. J. H. Way and Mrs. H. ('. West, the other two oldest members by point of years of mem bership in the society. Adjournment followed the busi ness session. Capt. Brinson, Wife Now In Washington Air Force Captain Milton W. Brinson, whose wife is the former Miss Mildred C. Phillips of Way nesville, is now stationed with Military Air Transport Service headquarters in Washington, D. C., as assistant chief of the manpower division. Commissioned in 1943, he serv- ed nearly two years with the Air ' force in the Pacilic theater. Cap-! tain Brinson is the son of Mr. aiyl Mrs. Robert T. Brinson of New Bern, N. C. He and his wife are making their home at 4221-B, Silver Hill Koad, Washington.
