Over 70 artists sent In personal greetings for the programs, which just proves that the wonderful people who make the records are never too busy to remember you . . . their friends who are really re sponsible for their popularity. One greeting that we especially ap preciated was from Babe Didrik son Zaharlas, the famous woman golfer, who has turned entertainer with a new harmonica version of "Detour." Tou will remember that she won a fight with cancer, and she said In her special greeting that the promts from the Bale of her record all go to light cancer. Down in North Carolina, a group which included Roy Acuff, Moon Mullican, George Morgan and others went bear hunting recently. They "tracked" for three days, but nobody got a bear. Another hunter who's off for the woods around West Virginia is Hawkshaw Hawkins. He's out for deer, but we haven't heard yet whether he bagged anything. There are several family groups making records. Ernest Tubb's two young'uns, son Justin and daugh ter Scooter Bill, all are singers as you know. And Goldie Hill's brother. Tommy, has' also made several records. Now we hear that another brother, Kenny Hill, is set to join that musical family in the record-making business. Have you heard Tommy Sands, a ' comparative new-comer to the field of hillbilly music? He's a promising youngster, who started pickin' and slngin' when he got a guitar as a Christmas present when he was seven. He took four lessons . . . and developed his own style after that. He's just 16 now, but' is headed up the ladder of success. His newest record Is "Roses Speak Louder than Words", and already we've had a number of requests Hard To Get Rowan Lespedeza Pays Off On Nematode Soils Rowan lespedeza, released two years ago to certified seed producers in North Carolina as a new variety resistant to the two most common types of root knot nematodes and powdery mildew, is hard to find.
