The U.M.W. of Parker Church met Tuesday ajn. with Mrs. Jesse Black at her home. The Rev. and Mrs. Carl Strickland left on Thursday of last week for Dallas. Texas, to attend the Southern Baptist Convention there this week. Layman Robert Turner conducted the . worship service at Tabernacle Church Sunday in the absence of the pastor, Mr. Strickland. Mrs. Louise Watson and Miss Nellie McFadyen Visited some of the patients at Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital Sunday pjn. They saw Mrs. Mary Peterson of Raeford and Mr. Younger Stephens of Rockfish. They seemed to be doing fairly well. If Rockfish News was a little shorter last week, there was a reason. The telephone strikers had come here some time Monday night and cut the wires. So, there was no party line talk here in Rockfish Tuesday, until late that afternoon, when the telephone folks came to investigate and repair. Bible School began at Pittman Grove Church Monday evening. Revival services begin at Pittman Grove Church Sunday night, June 16, with Rev. Baxter Walker of Fayetteville as the guest minister. You are cordially invited to attend. The Rev. William Beasley, pastor of Pittman Grove Church, will be heard over- WSHB Radio Station each morning this week at 11:45. Revival services began at Parker Church Sunday night with good attendance and good singing. It will continue through Friday night. Mrs. Larry Reich of Jacksonville, Fla., and her sons, Samuel and Donald, who have been with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. C. English and her husband's people in Winston-Salem for some time left for home last Friday. Paula and Karen, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Fred English went home with Mrs. Reich and children. Miss Carol Fowler, student at WCU. Cullowhee, the past year, got home last Friday. Mrs. W. A. Fowler, Mrs. Henry Fowler and daughters, Carol and Kathy, visited Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Powers of Rennert Sunday p.m.. and also stopped by Red Springs for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Phillips on their way home. Mr. and Mrs. Van Gibson and children of St. Pauls spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Gibson They attended services at Philippi Church and were dinner and supper guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gibson. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kelly and Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Bennett and chldren, Yvette, Kyle, and Brandon of Wilmington, spent last Sunday with Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson and Mr. and Mrs. MS. Gibson. Trade Bruton, Susan Upchurch and Scotty Crystal of Lexington, stayed with Joy and Ricky Gibson while the "grown ups" were gone to the celebration at Green Valley Country Club and Joy and Ricky went home with them Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McColl visited his mother, Mrs. S. N. McColl, and Mr. and Mrs. Hunter Forbis Sunday. Mrs. McColl is staying a while with Mr. and Mrs. Forbis while she has what people call the shingles and she has had a really bad case of it, but she was some better Sunday. Mrs. Butch Posey and daughter, Cristi, and Miss Diane McColl also visited their grandmother, Mrs. McColl, and Mr. and Mrs. Forbis of Lumber Bridge Sunday pjn. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McKeithan, Greg and Susan, Saturday, were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wright and daughter, Mistey of Winston-Salem. Jennie Monroe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Monroe, had an ice cream party for some of her school friends last Thursday night. Roy Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Jones of Route 2, Raeford, who graduated from the Douglas Byrd Senior High School in Fayette Wile, had a party for some of his classmates Friday night. Mr. Roy Shockley spent from Sunday to Friday with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Shockley. His brother was over the eye trouble he had and they were both doing fine. Mrs. Jim Maxwell and Mr. and Mrs. Smith Mclnnis were dinner guests of his mother and his brother, Thomas Mclnnis. Sunday, after attending services at Philippi Church. Mr. and Mrs. Ivy Wester of Fuquay-Varina and Mrs. Melo Thompson and Mrs. Fronzie Boyd of Sanford were guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Posey Sunday. Nancy Turner and Craig Rogers are at 4-H camp at Reidsville this week and there may be others from this area who were not reported. Sorry. Wedding Anniversary The Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Patterson of Wallace was celebrated with a dinner at Green Valley Country Club last Saturday., given by Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lanier and Perance Patterson. Mrs. Patterson is a sister of Mrs. Ethel D. Gibson, and she and the other sisters, Mrs. W. H. Schell, Mrs. Virginia Bounds, Mrs. A. B. Bruion. Mrs. W. B. McDiarmid and Mrs. H. G. Upchurch accompanied by lome of the husbands and Mrs. Gibson's daughter-in-law, Mrs. M. S. Gibson, all attended the celebration and cime back to Mrs. Gibson's home and visited her until way over in the night. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Bruton and Mr. and Mrs. Gordan Upchurch also attended the anniversary Saturday. Faith and Vickie Atwood snd their rister, Mrs. Eunice Ivy and daughters, Lucy and Connie, and a friend of West Columbia, S.C., were guests of Miss Mary Priest and her brothers, Walter and Francis Priest on Monday, June 3. Larry Hayes and Miss Libby McLean of Lumberton were guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Emmons Sunday and attended services at Tabernacle Church with the Emmons' grandchildren. Joan and Larry. Mrs. E. E. Emmons who has been working in Lumberton for several months, has decided to quit the job, afid she will be at home from now on and her family and neighbors are glad. Miss Margaret McGirt Smith.; of Wagram is a patient at Moore Mcrttonal Hospital. Her nephew. Smith Mclhnls, visited her there Sunday afternoon. The Rev. and Mrs. E. C. Crawford of Durham visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lovette last Thursday night. They spent the night with Mrs. Ernest Capps. Pat Harmon, Jr., of Chapel Hill, visited his mother, Mrs. Pat Harmon, the past weekend. Mrs. George Monroe, Mrs. Neill Gillis and Mrs. Russell Fleming spent the weekend at Montreat. Mrs. Lester Simpson. Sr., and her son, Lester Simpson. Jr., and family of Jacksonville, attended the Methodist Conference at Methodist College, Fayetteville, last Monday night. They were there for the ordination of Mrs. Simpson, Sr.'s, son-in-law. the Rev. Rex Brooks of Chapel Hill. They spent Monday night with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lovette. Miss Delia Blue was admitted to the Sanatorium at McCain last Tuesday for respiratory treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Stacey Hobson and Mrs. Jesse Black visited Miss Blue Sunday and she was doing fine.
