The an them "Gift of Love" presented by the Chancel Choir was excellent. There was infant baptism during worship service. Two infants were baptized. The picnic at Galatia Presbyterian Church last Sunday evening was a great success. It was well attended and everyone had a great time. The morning circles of Galatia Presbyterian Church held their meeting at the church Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00 o'clock. Each circle held a short business meeting and then joined for the Bible Study. Everyone took a covered dish and joined for a luncheon. Galatia Presbyterian Church has received as a memorial gift to the church library a Fine volume set of "The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible". Church members are encouraged to use this valuable resource in any of their Bible study. The men of the Galatia Presbyterian Church met Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Fred Dinkins was in charge of the pro gram. Rev. and Mrs. Archie Barringer and daughter, Becky returned from Southern Baptist Convention in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania Friday of last week. They reported a real nice trip. There was special Fathers Day service at Tabernacle Baptist Church last Sunday morning. Mrs. Archie Barringer, Mrs. Kenny Click and Mrs. Mary Anne Shepley left for Music Week at Ridgecrest last Saturday morning. Vacation Bible School at Taber nacle Baptist Church begins Mon day, June 27th and continues through July 1st. Pre-school through 6th grade is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. 7th grade and up is scheduled at 7:00 p.m. The church bus will be transporting the children in the surrounding area. All children are urged to attend. The youth group at Tabernacle Baptist Church will be going on a weekend beach trip the coming weekend. The church bus will leave the church Friday evening and will return Sunday. Malcolm Gillis of the Galatia Community is a patient in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville. He was admitted Tuesday. Mrs. Belle Ritter has recently become a resident at Whispering Pines Nursing Home. Mrs. Alma Moseley is recuperating at home following a two weeks stay at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. Mrs. Lawrence Barnard had din ner with Mrs. and Mrs. Bennie Williams of Manchester and daughter, Mrs. Robert Dey and children, Bobbie and Nicole of Cliftdale Road Saturday evening. Mrs. Henrietta Tanner spent Sunday in Lumberton as a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Tanner and family. Mrs. Henrietta Tanner visited her sister, Mrs. Virginia Thornton of Fayetteville last Saturday. Mrs. Thornton has been right sick but is reported to have improved the last few days. Miss Cathy Fowler visited her sister Mrs. Steve Durham and family in Hillsboro, North Carolina the past weekend. Rockfish Extension Home makers Club met for a workshop Wednesday morning at 10:00 Tel. 875-2736 o'clock at "Bens Ten" the home of Mrs. Mary Benkosky. Seven club members spent the morning working on the club project which is a candlewick bedspread. Coffee, tea and snacks were enjoyed dur ing the work session. The community extends sym pathy to the family of Mr. William Bowman of Pinehurst who died in Wilmington Monday, June 13th from a heart attack. Mrs. Bowman is the former Ellen Gay Smith, niece of Mrs. Ethel Monroe, who lived in the Rockfish area at one time. Mrs. Nellie Black of Raeford spent several days last week with Mrs. Ethel Monroe. They both at tended the meeting of the Highlanders at Galatia Presbyterian Church manse Friday of last week. Everyone was happy to see Mrs. Black and were especially glad to see "Miss Ethel" able to be out. Mrs. Alice Allen, Miss Teresa Allen of Chesterfield, South Carolina, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stika and Miss Sandra Allen of near Charleston, South Carolina, spent several days at South Myrtle Beach last week. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight English and daughters, Samantha, Heather and Kelley of Connelly Springs, North Carolina visited Mrs. Grace English the past weekend. Mr. and Mrs. English returned home but the children remained for a visit with their grandmother and other relatives in the area. Mrs. and Mrs. Douglas Monroe spent several days last week at Myrtle Beach. Sympathy is extended to the family of Daniel Max Ray who died Saturday. McFadyen, accompanied by their sisters, Mrs. Eli Whishart of Lumberton and Mrs. Jim Carver of Chapel Hill vacationed several days last week at Holden Beach. They were visited by Mary Catherine Thomas, Mrs. Carson Davis, and Jim Carver, Jr. while there. Mr. and Mrs. John Self of Lenoir spent the weekend here with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Conoly. Mrs. Mayme McAuley, who had made her home in Biscoe for many years, has recently moved to Rae ford. She is living with her brother John McKeithan, and her sister. Miss Annie McKeithan, at their home on West Donaldson Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Baker and children of Rockingahm were weekend guests of Mrs. Baker's father, James Stephens, at White Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Harmon Lindsay and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Maxwell spent the weekend at Long Beach. Dr. Kelly Is Speoker At Wall's Chapel A Raeford native came home this past weekend to speak to the congregation of the Wall's Chapel United Methodist Church. Dr. John C. Kelly of Rockville, Maryland, spoke to a large crowd during the Father's Day service Sunday, June 19. Dr. Kelly is a Doctor of Educa tion and works with the ad ministration of the Rockville schools. Mr. and Mrs. David Scott Currie returned last week after a visit with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Currie, at Port Orange, Florida, who accompanied them home for a visit in the Currie home, and in the home of another brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Currie. Enroute to Raeford the Curries stopped over night in Savannah, Georgia, for a visit with their uncle, Neil Currie. Mrs. Glenn Smith has returned to her home in Jacksonville,* Florida, after a visit here in the home of her sister. Mrs. Martin Webb, and other relatives. While here she and Mrs. Webb spent several days on the coast of North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Marty Jones and Ricky, and Pam Woodell spent several days last week in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Miss Sarah Morris of Virginia Beach spent Father's Day weekend with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Morris. Michael Wilson has returned to his home in Cary after a visit here with his grandmother. Mrs. A.R. Fitz Simons. While here they were guests of Mrs. James McDiarmid several days at White Lake. Mr. and Mrs. James McBrvde were in Gastonia last week to attend Commencement exercises at Ashbrook High School. Their grandson. Jay McBryde, was a member of the graduating class and served as a marshal. RALEIGH -- Randolph Luther Worth. President of the Terpsi chorean Club of Raleigh, an nounced today that invitations have been issued to the Fifty-seventh Annual North Carolina Debutante Ball. The event will be held here on September 8th. 9th and I Oth. The formal presentation to North Caro lina Society of young ladies from across the state will highlight the weekend festivities. The Terpsichorean Club, com prised of young gentlemen from the Raleigh area, was formed to spon sor an annual statewide Debutante Ball for the presentation of North Carolina's socially prominent young ladies and to honor the first families of the state. It has been given every year since 1923 with the exception of the World War II years. The young ladies, who will be presented by their fathers, were selected by over 100 nominators located throughout the state. Final approval of the Debutantes is made by Terpsichorean Club members. The young ladies are chosen based on the family's contribution to the community, their background, social prominence, and the girls' civic, scholastic and social activi ties. The Leader of the Ball is chosen from Wake County's Debu tantes. and fourteen girls from throughout the state are also honored by being named Assistant Leaders. During the Ball weekend, there will be eight different functions to be attended by the Debutantes, their families and their escorts. Officers of the Terpsichorean Club, in addition to Mr. Worth, are: Matt H. Nowell. Vice Presi dent; Joseph Calhoun Moore 111. Secretary-Treasurer; and Charles Lee Smith III. Assistant Secretary Treasurer. The Chairman of the 198.1 Ball is James Bell Black III who. with his committee, are already at work planning and organizing the tradi tional event . Mr. Black is former president of the Terpsichorean Club and ha* been a member since 1 9^2 . Sidewalk Sale Set The Raeford Merchants Association got plans underwav Tuesday during the regular mon thly meeting for the 11th Annual Sidewalk Sale. The sale will be held July 1-2. In other business during the regular monthly meeting, the mer chants discussed plans loi Christmas parade. All area merchants are invited and cncouragcd to attend the Raeford Merchants meeting which is held the third Tuesday of c\erv month at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant .
