Mrs. Carlton Niven, Social Reporter, 875-3785 Porter-Bratcher Couple Married In Charlotte Mrs. Daiyl G. Porter Shelvy Bratcher and Daryl Greg ory- Porter exchanged vows of holy wedlock Saturday. May 7. The Rev. Norman Kerry officiated. The rainbow of colors wedding occurred at Johnson C. Smith University Church in Charlotte. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a long ivory gown of silk taffeta. The gown was designed with puff sleeves and a full bodice, lavishly adorned with ivory chan t illy lace. The detachable train was also of chantilly lace. The finished touch was added by an ivory headpiece, of Roman style, adorned with silk flowers. The matrons of honor. Cindy Blakney and Linda Brown, and the maid of honor Jennifer Bratch er. all sisters of the bride, wore dresses designed with an empire bodice and puff sleeves of lavender, peach and yellow respectively. A bridal court, wearing similar dress es and arranged to display all the different beautiful colors of a rainbow consisted of: Diane Baker. Janice Blakeney. Lydia Crutch - field. Evelyn Garrett. Ruthie Giles. Leslie Hardison. Geraldine Kelly. Brenda Kennedy. Devia Phinisee and Romaine Porter. The junior bridesmaid was Miss Toneka Brew ington and Little Misses April Bratcher. April Hughes and Tera Brice were the flower girls. Hostetlers Attend Class Reunion Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hostetler attended Mrs. Hostetler's thirtieth class reunion at Duke University in Durham last weekend. The weekend included a panel with the moderator. Dr. Quanita Kreps. former Secretary of Com merce. and Judy Woodruff of NBC News, who were both Duke Alum nae. Mark Family Is Honored The Reverend and Mrs. Douglas Mark, who left June 3 with their four children for a visit with relatives in Ireland, were honored on two occasions before their departure. They were shown a courtesy when Mr. and Mrs. L.S. Brock, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Coley, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stone, Mr. and Mrs. Ken McNeill, Mrs. Laurie McEachern and Mrs. June Johnson entertained. A steak dinner with accessories was served on the patio at the home of Mrs. Johnson. The Marks were honored at a covered dish luncheon by the noon Bible Study Group in the fellowship hall of the Raeford Presbyterian Church, Thursday, June 3, before leaving the next day for Ireland. Master Travis Bratcher was the ring bearer; Vincent Buyck was the junior groomsman and Bernard Lindsay was the best man. Other groomsmen were: Ervin Blakney. Michael Bradford. Gary Bratcher. Jerry Bratcher. Mandrell Brewing ton, Marvin DeLoach. Daryl Grif fin-Simomons. Robert Harvey. Lonzel Kelly. Johnny Warren and Lionel Williams. Music was furnished by organist Machael Cooper and the Greater Mt. Sani Youth Ensemble. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Bratcher of Raeford. a graduate of UNC Charlotte. and presently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Public Health Nursing at UNC-Chapel Hill. The groom is the son of Deborah and Ernest Buyck of Detroit. Michigan. He graduated from Oakland University and Central Michigan University Graduate School. He is employed with South land Corporation. Chief Auto Parts. Dallas. Texas. The wedding was immediately preceded by a reception held at the YWCA-Trade Street. Their honeymoon trip consisted of visits with relatives and friends in North and South Carolina. Nash ville. Tennessee and Hot Springs. Arkansas, enroute to Dallas. Texas where they will reside. Miss Taylor, July Bride-elect Given Luncheon Miss Kathy Taylor of Laurel Hill, July bride-elect of Bill Brown, was honoree at a luncheon at the home of Mrs. J.W. Walker. Satur day, June 18. Hosting the occasion were Mrs. Hubert Wooten and Mrs. Charlie Morrison, aunts of the groom-elect, Walter Duncan Brown, in absentee, uncle of the groom-elect, Miss Alma Ferguson and Mrs. Hubert Cameron. Colonial bouquets of pink roses were used in the entertaining rooms. Guests were seated at the dining table, covered in a white linen cloth, and centered with beautiful pink roses, and smaller tables, decorated in the same manner. They were served a super three course meal. A number of friends and relatives came from out of town. The honoree was presented gifts of china and crystal in her chosen pattern, and a white silk rose corsage, made by the bridegroom elect's aunt, Mrs. Wooten. Mr. and Mrs. Griffith Black in Lisbuern in Northern Ireland. While there she joined the Marks and Blacks on a lour of the country. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lawing of rayetteville were Sunday guests of her mother. Mrs. Christana How ell. Texas, and Stephen Avery Connell, son of Charles Avery Connell of Raeford, and Mrs. Helen Scott Connell of Lum berton, spoke their wedding vows in a ceremony at the United Methodist Church. Saturday. June 4, at 3:00 p.m. The Reverend Arthur Winstead. pastor, officiated at the double ring ceremony. The church altar was centered with an arrangement of greenery consisting of teepee leaves, varie gated huckleberries, falai and var iegated pittisporum. Two nine branched and two seven -branched candelabrum flanked the center piece. and were decorated with greenery, same as the centerpiece. Palms and ferns were used as a background for the altar. Garland draped the choir rail, and the church windows were decorated with candles, surrounded by green ery. The mothers' pews were mark ed with hurricane globes circled with greenery, and the pews for honor attendants and special guests were marked with white satin bows. Nuptial music was furnished by Mrs. Lewis Upchurch. organist, and Mrs. Judy Strother and Wil liam Daniels, soloists. Songs sung were '"Let It Be Me". "The Wedding Prayer", and "Oh Lord Most Holy". Matthew Warren and Britt Bern hardt were acolytes. The bride, given in marriage by her parents, wore a gown of white organza with Alencon lace featur ing the Fitted bodice. The scoop neckline was appliqued with silk flowers on the shoulders and around the puff sleeves. The full skirt and chapel train were enhanc ed with Alencon Appliques. She carried a cascade bouquet of yellow enchantment lilies, yellow roses, daisies and spider plants. Mrs. Debra Kay Howington. sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a formal gown of yellow chiffon, and carried a spray of white silk spirea in addition to the spider plant and Queen Anne lace on her wreath. Mrs. Pamela Home, sister, of the bride, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Miss Cindy Connell of Durham, sister of the groom. Miss Carolyn Wilburn. Raeford, and Mrs. Trisha Lee, Benson, were bridesmaids. They wore gowns identical to the matron of honor and carried grapevine wreaths de corated with spider plants and Queen Anne lace. Miss Nancy Fair of North, South Carolina and Miss Robin Hayes of Whiteville were honorary brides maids. They carried a spray of white silk spirea. The groom, attended by his father as best man. wore a tuxedo charcoal grey jacket, pinstripe trousers and black bow tie. Ushers were Mallory Martin, Shelby. Richard Spero, III. Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Ricky D. Huff. Aberdeen, Michael Long, Raleigh, brother of the bride. Eddie Pennell. Summerville, South Carolina. The best man and ushers wore tuxedos identical to that of the groom. The mother of the bride wore a formal gown of coral with accor dian pleats and a corsage of sonya roses. The mother of the groom wore a formal gown of sea green and a corsage of yellow roses. Mrs. Mary Lee Chalaire directed the wedding. Special guests present for the occasion were Mrs. June Long of Ohio, grandmother of the bride; Mrs. Carolina Hawkins, and Mrs. Mariette Riley, aunts of the bride, of Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Spero. Mrs. Connell wore an orchid suit with a corsage of daisies for her departure for the wedding trip. RECEPTION Immediately following the wed ding the bride's parents hosted the reception in the fellowship hall of the church. The register table, presided over by Miss Robin Hayes, was decorat ed with greenery and yellow and white daisies. The refreshment table was cen tered with a candelabra decorated with falai leaves and yellow and white daisies. Garlands of greenery and yellow bows draped the table. Mrs. Betty Smith, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Terry Ransom, aunt of the groom, presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Mariette Riley, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. Mazelle Connell. aunt of the groom, served wedding cake. Miss Meredity War ren. served as tea girl. Guests were greeted by the bride and groom. AFTER REHEARSAL DINNER Mrs. Helen Scott Connell of Lumberton and Mr. and Mrs. Avery Connell of Raeford. hosted an after rehearsal dinner at the Ramada Inn in Lumberton. Friday evening. June 3. A buffet dinner was served to the wedding party, friends and family members. Tables were covered with white linen cloths and centered with arrangements of yellow and white daisies. Personals Mr. and Mrs. John McFadyen of Raleigh were weekend visitors in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neill McFadyen. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wilkerson and children of Greenville, South Carolina, were weekend visitors in the home of her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Richards. They also visited other relatives in the county. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Phillips and family of Washington spent the weekend here with relatives. Mrs. Jean Hodges spent several days in Washington, D.C. last week on business. Benton and Dellis Hodges left last week for an extended visit with relatives in Colorado Springs, Colo rado.
