Frustrated coach ? Department of Social Services Director Ken Witherspoon looks a bit per turbed during a practice session with his T-baii team. Blazers Have Rough Weekend In dismal weekend play, the Hoke County Bla/ers were defeated in both games, dropping their record to 12-7 for the season. The Blazers bowed out Saturday against Red Spring by a score of 10-2 with Rashad Rahmaan pitch ing the losing game. In Sunday's game the Blazers were wiped out by St. Pauls 12-0. Allen Morrison was the losing pitcher in Sunday's game. This coming weekend, the Bla/ers will take a breather on Saturday and pick up again on Sunday with a home game against L.umberton. Game time is 3 p.m. at the Hoke High School baseball field. Everyone is itnited to attend. Officers Elected For Youth Council The Hoke County Youth Coun cil elected officers for its 8.V84 P term. Elected were: President - Amy Wilson, Vice President - Paula Connell, Secretary - Kim Huffman and Treasurer - Donna Baker. The Youth Council is planning various activities for next year. Any persons interested in grades 8-12 are welcome. The Youth Council is under direction of Parks and Recreation. For more information please contact Parks and Recreation. Water isn't forever. The first game went to Beasley's Body Shop over the Raeford Jaycees 14-4. S. Sampson 3-3 M. Sutton 2-3, Priest 2-4 and J. Thigpin 2-3 were the leading bat ters for Beasley's. Raeford Jaycees was led by Cannon 1-1, B.Posey 1-3 and Jones 1-3. In the second game, Jones Inter cable defeated Boahn Concrete 16-1. M. Madden 3-3, Wa. Johnson 3-4, Wi. Johnson 2-3 and S. Cummings 2-3 were the leading batters for Jones Intercable. Boahn Concrete was led by T. Watson 1-2 and R. Johnson 1-2. As the night ended, Hard & Heavy squeezed by Duffie Braves 13-10. Leading batters for Hard & Heavy were L. McDonald 3-4, P. Jordan 2-3, R. McRae 2-3 with one home run and C. Chandler 2-4 with one home run. In Thursday night's action, the first game was won by Jones Inter cable over the Raeford Jaycees 2S-3. Leading batters for Jones In tercable were M. Madden 4-4, Wa. Johnson 4-5 and L. Chason 4-5 with one home run. Jaycees was led by M. Matthew 3-3 and D. McNeill 2-3 with one home run. In the second game, Beasley's defeated Duffie Braves 19-0. Leading batters for Beasley's were H. Thompson 3-4 with one home run, C. Campbell 2-3, and T. Southerland 2-3. Duffie Braves was led bv L. McMillian 1-2, and R. McKoy 1-2. In the last game, the All Stars edged out Hard & Heavy 20-18. Leading batters for the All Stars were P. Maynor 4-5 with one home run, G. Maynor 4-5 and B. Hurst 3-5 with one home run. The big blow of the game came off B. Easterling's bat, a grand slam homer that ice the game for the All Stars. Hard & Heavy was led by N. Singletary 4-5 with one home run, K. McDonald 3-4 and C. Chandler 3-4 all were home runs. DeFtra Purcell and Sheila McRae graduated from Norih Carolina Agricultural & Technical Stale University in Greensboro on May 8 with Bachelor of Science Degrees in Nursing. DeFtra is ihe daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Manley Purcell. Rt. 3. Raeford. Sheila is the daughter of Mrs. Arlevia McRae of Shannon. Sheila was also commissioned into the United Stales Air Force May 7. Tennis Lessons The Parks and Recreation Commission will sponsor two ses sions of tennis lessons July 4-8 and July 11-15. The classes will be taught at Hoke High courts and will be limited to the first 10 to register for each class. Cost for each ses sion will be $20.00.
