Kennedy and Mrs. W. P. Sellars. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Davis of Bolivia arrived Wednesday to spend Christmas with her mother, Mrs. Earl Arthur of Bettie, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I-eonard Davis of Davis. Miss Fran Bosley of Annapolis, Md., will arrive Saturday to spend Christmas with her fiance, Jimmy Potter, and his parents, Mr and Mrs. James D. Potter. Mr. and Mrs. Richard S. Moore of Cape Hatteras will arrive Friday to spend the hollidays visiting their parents. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Steed will leave Sunday for Ahoskie to visit their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs James Steed, and daugh ters. Walker Moore, Jacksonville, is expected home today- to spend the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Moore. Mrs. J. J. Davis will return home this weekend from a visit in Falls Church, Va. Her son, Maurice Davis of Falls Church, and his daughter, Miss Susie Davis of At lantic Christian college, will bring her home and remain here for Christmas. Mr. Ron Schmidt and son, Dale, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Snowden Thompson, left last week for Columbus, Ohio, to visit his parents before returning home to Memphis, Tcnn. Mr. and Mrs. Mickey Woolard arrived Tuesday from West Palm Beach, Fla., to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Harrell and Mr. and Mrs. M. G. Woolard of More head City. Arriving Friday to visit Mr. and I Mrs. Snowden Thompson will be Mr .and Mrs. Howard C. Fodrie and son, Steve, of Charlotte and Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Steed and daughter, Kelly, of Woodbridge. Va. Miss Anita Copeland, who teach es in Fuquay Springs, arrived home yesterday to visit her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Copeland. Dr. W. E. Adair Jr. of Erwitt visited his mother, Mrs. W. E. Adair, Sunday. He left Monday to return home. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mohlcr and family have gone to Florida, where they will spend Christmas with his parents. From there they will go to New London, Conn., where Mr. Mohler, formerly chief aboard the CGC Chilula, will be stationed. Mr. and Mrs. Rubert Carver and children arrived yesterday from Two Parties are Given To Honor Sunday Bride Miss Jean Gillikin was honored at two parties prior to her mar riage to Henry Eubanks Sunday. On Tuesday night at the home ! of Mrs. Elmer Willis, Williston, a [shower was given by Mrs. Willis, Mrs. Dennis Piner, Mrs. Cecil Tu ten, Mrs. Martin Brooks and Mrs. Jesse Piner. Corsages of white carnations were given the honoree, her aunt, Mrs. Seymour Davis, and Mrs. Ivey Eubanks. The house was beautifully decorated in a Christ mas motif. Games were won by Mrs. Don Nierling, Mrs. D. M. Tyson, Mrs. Anson Dunn, Mrs. Iredell Willis | and Mrs. Frank Gillikin. Mrs. Wade won the door prize. I The thirty guests were served , punch, cake, salted nuts and mints. Following rehearsal of the wed ding Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Piner entertained Miss Gillikin and Mr. Eubanks at a cake putting at their home. The table was covered with a red net cloth caught up at the cor ners with red bows. The center piece was of red poinsettias and was flanked with red candles ini silver candelabras. Also on the, table were a crystal punch bowl and a three-tiered wedding cake tapped with a miniature bride and groom. A corsage of red carnations was presented the bride. George Huntley III. a student at Duke university, is spending the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Huntley Jr. Master Points Awarded Bridge Tourney Winners Mr. Brad Reynolds of Wilming ton and Dr. Charles Duffy of New Bern were winners of Friday night’s duplicate bridge tournament at the Inlet inn. The winners were awarded master points. Second place was won by Mrs. G. L. Mattocks and Mrs. E. L. Warren of Jacksonville, third place by Mrs. George Bissette of New Bern and Mrs. Evelyn Tounsley <jf Jacksonville and fourth by Mrs, Don Martin and Captain Norman Berry of Cherry Point. Mr. A1 Dewey, director, an nounces that the tournament will be played this week as usual. County Bridge league Winners are Announced The County Bridge League awarded master points to the win ners of Monday night’s play at the recreation building in More head City. The winners were: North-south: first, Mrs. C. P Davis and Mrs. Alvah Hamilton Sr.; second, Mrs. D. J. Lewis of New Bern and Mrs. J. S. Steed; tied for third, Mrs. Floyd Chad wick and Mrs. B. O. Ketner with Mrs. Julia, Tenney and Mr. Mohler. East-west: first, Mr. Jack Wind ley and Mr. Allen Windley; sec ond, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Dewey; third, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Duffy of New Bern; fourth, Mr. S. K. Hedge cock and Capt. Norman Berry of Cherry Point. Office to Close David Morris, driver license ex aminer, announces that his office in Havelock will be closed Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. His Beaufort office will be closed Dec. 23. The office will be open other days as usual. Santa to Visit Santa will ride the Marshallberg fire truck to the community build ing at 6 p.m. Saturday to visit with the children and pass out treats. Santa’s visit is being sponsored by the fire department. Everyone is welcome. Hawk Talk Newport Choruses Present Christmas Concert Monday By JENNY LYNN GARNER First of all, NHS would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christ mas and a Happy New Year. Or, as some of the students that are really “in the groove” say, Best wishes for a Cool Yule and a Fran tic First. The two school days this week were filled with gaiety and even frenzy as Christmas spirit and ex citement swept through the school. All the classes enjoyed Christmas parties^ Tuesday afternoon. The seniors exchanged nonsense gifts and came up with some weird but hilarious ideas. We hope that our laughter didn’t disturb the rest of the school too much! The glee club and junior chorus presented their annual Christmas program Monday afternoon. Un der the direction of Mrs. Ruby Chartley, the glee club sang Ring Those Christmas Bells, Star of Bethlehem, and others. Garland Whitaker, accompanied by Edward Millis, sang the beauti ful No Candle Was There and No Fire. Christmas was one of the se lections sung by the junior chorus, accompanied by Patricia Ketner and Sandy Savage. The school looks forward to the Christmas choral presentations and immensely enjoyed this year's. Among the first of the Christmas parties was the Beta club's, given I Wednesday night at Sandra Hair's home. Graduates home for the j holidays and present Beta mem- j bers enjoyed getting together and had many things to discuss. A short but meaningful Christmas program was given by Eddie Lynn Garner. Miss Senior for this week is Mar-j garet Dawn Lilly, daughter of Mr.! and Mrs. Cyrus T. Lilly of Mill Creek. She stands a slim 5 feet 6V2 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. Margaret says that she had rath er eat shrimp than any other food. Among her other favorites are teacher, Mrs. Betty Mizelle; sub ject, typing; singers, Fats Domino and Lavern Baker; and her fav orite record is Last Date. Natural ly enough, Margaret chooses bas ketball as her favorite sport. Twice a member of the girls all Mrs. Gibbs Entertains Club at Christmas Party Mps. Sam Gibbs Jr. entertained her bridge club at a Christmas party Tuesday evening at her home. Christmas decorations were used throughout the rooms. Guests of the club were Mrs. A. B. Vick Jr. of Morehead City and Mrs. Howard Jones Jr. High score was won by Mrs. Vick, second high by Mrs. Jones, and low by Mrs. Herman Autry. During play the hostess served date-nut bars, candies and Hawaii an punch. Christmas gifts were exchanged. Mrs. Julia Basden Wins Turkey Saturday Night Mrs. Julia Basden won the tur key given away Saturday night at the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Christmas party, held at the lodge hall. Christmas decorations were used throughout the building. Dancing and games were enjoy ed during the evening. Sandwiches, potato chips, dip, pickles, cookies, coffee and soft drinks were served. Margaret was voted Most Athletic by the senior class and is an officer of the Mon ogram club. During school, Margaret has been a very active member of glee club. She has also been ac tive in FI1A. After graduation, Margaret plans to attend airlines school in Kansas City, Mo. Lewis Forrest is Mr. Senior this week. The son of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Forrest Sr., Lewis is one of the most active and well rounded boys in the senior class. He is an I FFA officer, class vice-president, Lewis Forrest Beta member, parliamentarian for the SCA, a bus driver, FTA mem ber, and on the safety patrol. Lewis has had major roles in both the junior and senior plays. He is also a member of the annual staff. Lewis received the superla tives most dependable and best personality. Girls and cars are his favorite pastimes and Mrs. Peacock’s Eng lish class is his pet peeve. Lewis says that the most memorable event happening while he has been in high school was the junior-sen ior prom last year. Brenda Lee ranks as his favorite singer and Wonderland by Night is his fav orite record. Lewis says that Mr. C. S. Long, agriculture teacher, has greatly in fluenced his decision to study ag ricultural engineering next year at N. C. State.
