Come on Thursday, Au gust 5, 1976 at 3 p.m. to the Fellowship Hall of Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church to find out how you can help to “earn” $47,760 Federal Tax dollars to help the senior citizens of Yancey County. In order to “earn” these Federal dollars and return tax dollars to Yancey County, $17,512 must be raised locally to serve as matching funds. The Yancey County Commit tee on Aging is seeking to raise this money before September 1, 1976. The plans now are to turn downtown Burnsville into a one-day carnival with booths sponsored by local business es, churches, civic clubs, professionals and other inter ested persons. Representa tives from all of these are urged to attend the meeting at Presbyterian Conference Slated In Asheville Presbyterians from more than a dozen states will assemble in Asheville on August 11 for a day-long Bicentennial Conference on the Reformed Faith. The Presbyterian Journal, published weekly in Ashe ville, will co-sponsor the event with the National Presbyter ian and Reformed Fellowship. The Fellowship, an organiza tion of individual ministers and elders belonging to some ten Presbyterian and Reform ed denominations, is sponsor ing a series of such confer ences throughout the United States during this Bicenten nial year. The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Grove Park Inn. About 60 people attended the party. A delicious meal was served, followed with a birthday cake and all the trimmings. The Nutrition Program is located at the Community Building. Presenting 'Johnny Appleseed' Children’s Summer Theatri The Yancey County Public Librajy and the Toe River Arts Council jointly present to the public a free performance of “The Legend of Johnny Appleseed” on Thursday evening, August 5, at 3:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Burnsville First Baptist Church. In connection with this production, the Toe River Arts Council will have a display of the children’s summer arts program spon sored by the Toe River Arts Council in Yancey and Mitch ell County. “The Legend of Johnny Appleseed” is a children’s summer theatre production and contains a cast of 25 children players: Johnny Ap pleseed, as a young man, is played by Julie Reed; Johnny Appleseed as an old man, by Bill Koch; the Guardian Angel by David Styles; the Pioneer Men by Rebecca Austin, Paul Jones, Angela Anglin, Vickie Shepherd; the Pioneer Wo men by Karen Silvers, Beth Peterson, Alecia Lee, Kristi Ingram, Kathy Muri, Vanda Murphy; the Owl by Kenneth Gardner; the Deer by Heather Norris; the Hare by Sharon McClure; the Panther by Linda Hess; the Bear by Sharon McCurry; the Skunk by Hollie Sides; the Indian Chief by Charles Gilbert; the Indian Braves by Tom Max well, Tammy Silvers, Chris Lee, Dan Sides.
