Bulldogs Place Seven Players On Conference Honor Roster By Bill Dyer Staff Writer Karen Watson, Peggy Martin, and Johnny Foster received Conference honors at WCU Saturday night. Karen has averaged 18 points a game this year and has been a big factor in the girls team's success. Peggy Martin is the teams rover and playmaker. Her accuracy at handling the ball has given Murphy a distinct advantage over most of its opponents. Johnny Foster, All Conference boys team, controlled the boards for Murphy and has added points when they were really needed. He helped to lead the Murphy Dogs to a successful season. The girls' co-captains, Rosie Hawkins and Sharon Boring, and Wayne Price and Dannie Ballew from the boys' team were selected as Outstanding Players. Rosie Hawkins, a Senior, is a member of FHA, FBLA, and president of the Monogram Club. During her senior year she has also served in the Homecoming Court, is Sports Editor of the Eagle, was published in the National Anthology of High School Essays, and made the first-half honor roll. Rosie has play ed ball for four years, serving as co captain during her junior year and as captain her senior year. She has received Outstanding Offensive and Most Valuable Player awards and was chosen Most Athletic by Coach Peggy Lindsay. Sharon Boring, a Junior, is a member of FBLA, and is secretary-treasurer of Monogram Club. Sharon was Homecoming Queen during her sophomore year; and this year she serves as co-captain, representative, Junior Class member of the Prom Favorite, and was an escort in Committee, and made the first- the Homecoming Court for two half honor roll. years. Mall Orders Filled Murphy Falls To Nebo The Murphy girls basketball team lost by three points in the first round Tuesday night of the District 8 playoffs at Ahsville. The local girls were eliminated by the Nebo team, 42-39. The margin proved to be foul shots, since the McDowell County girls hit a larger percentage of their shots from the foul line.
