Why The Chimes Rang Why The Chimes Rang was presented twice Thursday, Dec. 16 in the Black Mountain Primary School Auditorium at 9:15 am and 10:15 am by Mrs. Karen Glenn’s Third Grade. WHY THE CHIMES RANG An adaptation of the story by Raymond Alden It was the custom on Christmas Eve for all the people to bring their gifts for the Christ child to the church, and when the greatest and best gift was laid on the altar, the music of the chimes could be heard through the church. For many long years they had not been heard. People had become careless of their gifts - each one trying to bring some better gift than the other, without giving anything that he wanted for himself. No gift was great enough for the chimes to ring until Pedro and little Brother gave a little silver piece from their own pockets. This set the beautiful chimes ringing because it was a 'rue gift from the heart. The members of the choir sang joyously all through the program. IMW PEDRO, MIKE MARETT, (L), and Little Brother, Gary Glaser, (R), talked of seeing the beautiful service on Christmas* Eve. THE SOLDIER, SHELDON SOLESBEE, knelt and looked up to see if his gift of his precious sword was enough to make the chimes ring. Kevin Ruff, the minister, looked on hopefully, too. Warm wishes to everyone. VIVERETTE ELECTRICAL SERVICE Black Mountain May the Holy Infant bless you with joy at Christmas! Dr. and Mrs. Donald Chatham bought the building at that ime and had it moved intact o its present location. The station was built by the IAN Railroad in 1895. For 77 years it had served the area. Teddy Roosevelt and Harry Truman both campaigned here. Roosevelt in 1912 and Truman in 1948. The building is a lovely example of Victorian ar chitecture. The moving and restorations project took from August 1972 to June 1974. A visit to Chatham Station is indeed a journey through the past, but it also provides a service for the present and a purpose for the future.
