Hertford BPW GKib The Hertford Business and Professional Women's Club, affiliated with the National . Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. Was chartered in Sept. 1948. Many projects have been initiated by the club. In 1950 the club voted to start a sick loan closet as a community project for Perquimans County. The need was great as residents had no place to ' borrow, rent or buy sick room items that they needed temporarily. Under the leadership of Mrs. Roxanna Jackson and Mrs.' Betty Swindell, co chairwomen, the loan closet has grown immensely. The program began with one wheelchair, Today there are 22 wheel chairs, 20 complete beds, 19 walkers, 14 bedside commodes, 18 bed rails, 20 pairs of crutches, 3 Bradford (or" A") frames and 3 hospital tables, and many small items for the sick room. These loan items . ;are purchased with money donated by grateful users. Many used items ' are donated by people who no 1 longer have use for .them. During the past year 'approximately 150 items were loaned. ; Members of the BPW Club donate their time and efforts ' to many worthwhile undertakings. Much interest is shown in the county's young people.
