This was Hap py Birthday U.S.A. Week. ; Monday's activities were reported, in last week's paper. On Tuesday and ' Wednesday, the children played colonial games in their physical education classes. Thursday brought the finals to several weeks of classroom contest competi tion. The categories were reminiscent of school in by : gone days. Children wrote ' essays, recited poems, entered penmanship con tests, art contests, spelling bees and ciphering contests. And then came Friday. ' Exciment filled the air as students and teachers ar- rived at school in costumes of almost every period of American History. Parents and students were seen walking the halls with ' beautifully decorated birthday cakes, ice cream freezers and assorted ingre- dients. The freezers began to turn and the excitement mounted. After packing the ice cream, the student body went to the auditorium for further activities. Each class had raised or collected money to buy a birthday gift for the school.
