J. Pe:e8-The Perquimans Weekly. Citizens United Far The READING IN '76 What's Doing . . . -THE NEED: Addition to and renovation of the Per 1 quimans Count Library is needed to more adequately serve its patrons. ' v. ;v: - ' " ' PERQUIMANS RESPONSE NO. 17 ' - ' " The Perquimans Library is getting a new look both inside and out. The accompanying picture shows the attractive new entrance now completed. To the rear of the building, a new room has been added measuring 40 ft. by 40 ft.,' giving die building a "T" shape and doubling the interior space. - New lighting, new metal shelving (which is standard in all modern libraries), newly painted walls and wall shelves, and wall to wall carpeting win complete the interior renova tions and transform the old library into a modern and up to date library. ' " f-ri: y -V .v" ' This much needed work is being done by the county and by utilizing the present brick and adding a wing to the building, the county will have a library that will serve the needs of the people for many years at a cost much less than that of a new building. ' H ' ' " Y Perquimans has long had one of the best and most, com plete collections of books of any library in the area, and a collection of which it can be proud. However, the crowded conditions and lack of shelf space seriously handicapped the full use and growth of the library services'. ' v This work now in progress,"while exciting and satisfying, is causing much confusion in the library as it remains open 'on its regular schedule: The big job is moving the books. More than 19,000 of them have to be taken off the shelves, wiped off to remove fallen plaster and other dust, then put out of the way so that existing shelves can be painted. Then each book will be dusted again and arranged in its proper classification and placed on the new shelves. n, Volunteers are helping the librarians in this monumental task. Any friend of the library who would like to help in the coming days should call the library at 426-5319. Any and all .help will be greatly appreciated. ' The Perquimans County Library is really a good one and a great asset to the county in carrying out the overall plan of Citizens United for the Improvement of Reading. . .
