K* ?? i? ecrea tional meeting held * The Northeastern North Carolina Recreation Direc tors Quarterly Meeting jr?i held last Wednesday, fwovember 15, at the KnObb's Creek Recreation Center in Elisabeth City. Hosting this meeting were: Billy Wooten, Director of the Perquimans County Parks and Recreation Department; Jerry Allen, Director of the Elizabeth City Parks and Recreation Department; and Mike Johnson, Director of the Edenton-Chowan Recrea tion Department. Recreation was a tap for the morning session as the directors and their guests played a Par 3 Golf Tour nament on the Elizabeth City Partes and Recreation golf course. Winners were Eddie Beach, Recreation Director of Williamston, and Duncan Carlton, Recreation Asst. Director of Kinston. Following the golf, a delicious meal was served the directors by the Memory Lane Senior Citizens Club of Per quimans County. ?? Steve Moler, Recreation Consultant for the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Community Development, led a discussion following the meal. Items touched , upon were: Recreation Convention in December, ' the Green Thumb - Pro- | gram, funding procedure changes, and the Youth | Conservation Corp. Jerry Allen then showed I slides of his department, , explaining operating pro- ' cedures, funding pro- | grams, community center rules, and maintenance | problems. RECREATIONAL GATHERING ? White and Charlie Umphlett were injured in an automobile collision which occurred about 9 miles from Deep Creek, aFl:30 Wednesday afternoon. The local men were on their way to Norfolk when their car collid ed with another being driven by a Virginia man whose name was not known at the time of this writing. All oc cupants of both cars were injured and police have call ed for a hearing to be held next week to determine the fault of the accident. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT: Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Mann of Norfolk wish to announce the birth of a daughter, Sara Ruth, born October 17, at General Hospital. Mrs. Mann is the former Ruth Gilliam Thatch, of Hertford. BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT: Mr. and Mrs. Dick I B vans of Elkin, N.C., announce the birth of a son, born Sunday, November 10. Mrs. Evans is the former Miss Edna Ruth Cannon formerly of Hertford. LOCAL STORE MAKING DRIVE ON OLD LAMPS: Gregory's 5, 10 and 25 cent store is making a drive to place new up-to-date lamps into many homes in the county. A liberal allowance is being made on any old lamp traded for lamps handled by the local store. DWELLING BURNED: Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Proctor of Burgess, had the misfortune of losing their residence by fire Wednesday afternoon. They were unable to save any clothing or furniture. BLANCHARD-WHITE: A wedding of wide interest took place last Saturday afternoon when Miss Marjorie White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayland White, of Belvidere, became the bride of Sidney Blanchard, son of Mrs. Lusius Blanchard of Elizabeth City. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J.C. Trivette, Belvidere, and was attended by friends of the couple.
