Poole's Grove church holds ^bible school Poole's Grove Baptist Church held Vacatkm Bi ble School June 18 through 22nd. The theme was "Jesus, I'm His, He's Mine." Director was Earlene Sellers, Superintendent, William Turner; Pastor, Reverend J.L. Wills. Average daily attendance was 25 to 30. VBS TEACHERS ? The Poole's Grove Baptist Church Vacation Bible School Teachers worked with the- children with several projects. Some of them were Bible Study, Arts and Crafts, Outdoor Games and Music. Area students are outstanding Thirteen Perquimans County residents were among the 125 College of the Albemarle stu dents who maintained scholastic averages dur ing the Spring Quarter which assured the inclu sion of their names on the Dean's List. ^Local and county residents receiving the special honor are: Col lege Transfer ? The following students from Perquimans County have been named to ttie 1979 spring semester dean's list at the Univer sity of North Carolina at Chapel HiU. To make the dean's list, a student must earn a 3.2 grade average on the 4.0 scale (A-4, B-3, etc.) while taking 15 or more letter grade hours ?\f credit, or a 3.5 ^erage while taking at least 12 but less than 15 letter grade hours. Winston Earl Lane III, son of Mr. and Mrs. r Winston E. Lane Jr., Rt. 1; Eva Ruth Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Jarvis Ward, 211 North Church St.; and Roger Lewis White, son of Mrs. J.E. White Sr., P.O. Box 365, Hertford. Lloyd Evans Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Evans Sr. of Rt. 1, Hert ford, is the recipient of the $450 Jaycette Scholar ship, which he will use to enter UNC-Chapel Hill to pursue a course of studies in the field of Pharmacy. The scholarship was made possible by the pro ceeds from the Little Miss and Mister Per quimans Pageant which was held in May. Stephen Weis graduated third in this year's class I of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Smith of Hertford. The students earning honors came to NCSU from 94 of North Carolina's 100 counties. The following are the Perquimans County Dean's List students, their fields of study and parent's name. Catherine F. More correctly, local school units who insure their facilities through the Division of Insurance in the Department of Education are recipients of these lower rates. Insuring with the fund is entirely optional. A school unit may insure with a stock or mutual company instead. However, at the present time, 106 of the 145 local school units are insured with the fund and 28 of the community colleges and technical institutes are also insured through the fund. According to the latest figures from the Division, the. Perquimans School System had $3,319,200 worth of insurance in force as of June, 1978. f FISH HATCHERY TOUR - Children taking part in the EFNEP Youth Day Camp toured the Edenton National Fish Hatchery as part of the two-day activities. * COA annual is here The 1979 Beacon, an nual publication at Col lege of The Albemarle, has been received from the printer, according to an announcement this week from faculty year book advisors. People in the news Mr. and Mrs. Ray Haskett have returned home from a visit with Dr. and Mrs. Joe Haskett Jr. at Denver, Colo. Miss Joanna Haskett and Joey Haskett, III of Denver Colo., are guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Haskett. Christopher Gulick of Hawaii is spending the summer with his grand mother, Mrs. Ida Lee Chory. Day camp goes :: south of the border "Foods with a Mexican Flavor" was the theme for the EFNEP Activity Fun and Day Camp held at the County Office Building June 11-12. The group was taught and shown foods used in Mexico by Mrs. Earline White, Nutrition Aide with the Agricultural Ser vice. She made tortillas as the main food, stress ing nutritional value. The group heard safety information, handicraft, and took a tour of the Edenton Fish Hatchery. Nominated by the UNC-G faculty . Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stokes of Hertford, Suzanne was awarded an assistantship to the faculty of the School of Library Science at UNC-G during her en tire graduate studies.
