WEDNESDAY. JUNE16,1976 THE TRIBUNAL AID PAGE A-3 P.E. Demonstration Centers Complete Year It You Don't Vote- You Just Don't Count Statistics recently releas ed by the Department of Public Instruction's Divi sion of Health, Safety and Physical Education show that a total of 1,191 vistors registered at the State's physical demonstration centers during the past school year. The centers are jointly sponsored by the Depart ment of Public Instruct ion and the President’s Council on Physical Fit ness and Sports for the purpose of offering school personnel an opportunity to observe exemplary physical education pro grams. They were located in eight schools in the State this year: Balfour Elementary, Henderson County; Ferndale Junior High, High Point; Fines Creek Elementary, Hay wood County; Harden Park Elemtary, Boone; Knox Junior High, Salisbury; Lexington Middle School, Lexington; St. Clair Prima ry, Sanford; and Swift Creek Elememtary, Wake County. Each school serves as a demonstration center for three years, according to Floyd M. Woody, physical education consultant. Balfour Elementary, Ferndale Junior High, and Food Prices Drop As Inflation Eases Up The Division of State Budget’s latest cost-of- living survey in the state re veals that while inflation only slowed down from Oc tober to April, overall food prices dropped for the first time since 1970. Substantially low'er meat and poultry prices are pri marily responsible for low ering the cost of the market basket by 1.3 percent. The 7.5 percent lower meat and poultry prices, however, only served to offset the 18.8 percent they rocket ed during the previous six- month survey^period, from April 'td ' October, 1975. The Budget Division’s semi-annual survey is based on the prices of 132 items in categories includ ing homeownership, food, fuel and utilities, public transportation, medical carem hotels, and restaur ant meals. Of these items, 48 percent cost more, 28 percent cost less, and 24 percent cost the same as they did in October, 1975. Public transportation saw the greatest price hike, with railroad and airline fares up almost 8 percent. Adding to the cost of in state travel is a 5.1 percent rise in hotel and motel rates, and a 3.3 percent rise in restaurant prices. Costs of homeownership rose only 1 percent, with the higher price of new homes balanced out by lower jTjortgage rates. Fuel utilities costs rose I.2'percent, with na tural gas prices up 4.2 per cent and electric costs de creasing. Medical care costs climbed 3.2 percent, a slackened rate compared to the 5.7 percent they in creased during the pre vious six months. Civitan Of The Week by Fredrick N.
