March 1, 1984-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Page 3B Success Is Soul Winning In the beginning of 1984, God gave me a series to preach and teach to the Foursquare Gospel Church. The series deals with how to have and how to be a successful church for the glory of God. One of the ways to accomplish this success is through effective soul winning. The first century church was so ardent in its evangelistic fervor that the Good News of heaven’s love was sounded forth everywhere. The success story of the New Testament Christianity never loses its appeal to the loyal child of God. But, unless members of the Lord's family to- day recapture the zeal of the early saints, we shall not see the tremen- dous results of the apostolic era. Someone has said it this way: He who lives to himself and dies to himself - to himself and none beside-lives as though Christ never lived, as though He never died. Each and every member of the body of Christ could rightly argue that an effective program for soul winning must come from the leader- ship of the church. On the other hand, the most effective soul winning “technique” is the daily consecration of sincere Christians. It is im- possible to argue with a demonstration. Many have been influenced, many are being. influenced, and many can still be influenced by the way of holiness through the impact of a godly life. A life dedicated to the Lord Jesus. We could cause our neighbors to be much more im- pressed with our message if they constantly would see Christ in our ac- tions. Do our closest observers (co-workers, school mates, neighbors, family) recognize that we have “been with Jesus”? In Galatians 2:20, the Apostle Paul wrote it this way: “I am crucified with Christ: never- theless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which 1 now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God,who loved me, and gave Himself for me”. His new life in Jesus showed. The opposite of purity of life is a reality, also. I hear it said so mariy times, “Nothing but a bunch of hypocrites go to that church” or “if they are saved and live as they do, I have nothing to worry about”. God forbid that we in the body of Christ do so much damage to our Lord and His beloved ministry. Purity of life was one of the most outstanding attributes of the New Testament church. Believing ardently, the early Christians went everywhere spreading-the Good News of Jesus’ love. With all the communication networks, thousands of social and spiritual reforms being performed and many many Christian organiza- tions in function, why have we not won the world for our blessed True Vine Group Sing On Saturday True Vine Gospel Singers of Kings Mountain will be singing for benefit of the mentally han- dicapped on Saturday night, March 3, at 7 p.m. at the old Gastonia Armory, across from Gastonia Coca Cola Company on Franklin Avenue. Other gospel groups to be featured on the program will be The Pathfinders of Charlotte, the Graves singers of Spartan- burg, S.C., The Hamptons of Blacksburg, S.C. Grissom To Speak March 4 At Dixon Church TRUE VINE GOSPEL SINGERS AND EVANGELISTIC TEAM - Pictured are members of the True Vine Gospel Singers and Evangelistic Team who will sing for a benefit Saturday night at the old Gastonia Armory. All proceeds will go to the mentally retarted Dixon Presbyterian Church will continue its four-month observance of its 40th anniver- sary Sunday, March 4. Rev. George Grissom, who was Summer Assistant Pastor at Dixon in 1955 when he was a student at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., will be guest speaker during the 11 a.m. worship hour. He is now pastor of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church in Stan- field. Following the service, a covered dish lunch will be serv- ed. The Witness Committee, which organized the celebration, will also participate in Sunday’s service. The church’s history from 1950-59 will be reviewed and persons ‘who have been members of the church for 30 years or more will be recognized. The Dixon Church was organized on February 6, 1944, in the old Dixon School. The church occupied its present building on Dixon School Road on June 26, 1949. Future celebrations are scheduled for April 1, May 6 and May 27. Methodists Launch Bicentennial Sunday The United Methodist Church is celebrating the 200th year of Methodist in America during 1984. Central United Methodist Church will have several impor- tant events as part of this Bicentennial. The launching of this emphasis will take place Sunday, March 4, at the 11:00 oclock worship service. Dr. James S. Barrett, president of Greensboro College, an ordained United Methoidst Minister, and an authority of Methodism, will be the guest speaker. Dr. Barrett is a native of York County, SC. He holds an A.B. Degree from Woffored College, and he did his graduate work at Emory University, University of Georgia and Harvard Universi- ty. FIRST WESLEYAN 505 N. Young people will leave from the church at 3:30 p.m. and return to Kings Mountain at | a.m. on March 3. Pastor: Oscar Stalcup. Jr. Foursquare Gospel Church Lord? This question can not be answered fully in the article; on the other hand, I am persuaded that much more could be done to in- fluence our world if we of the household of God — had a deeper love of God and a deeper love of féllow men. Did you know that there is someone you could bring to the Master if you really cared enough? Souls are perishing in the anguish of sin while we waste precious time and talent on lesser things. We can reach souls and see souls saved if: we live a life after the example of the Lord Jesus; care about the spiritual needs of others, pray for an opportunity to get involved and when it comes take advantage of it; support local and world missionary efforts; be faithful to your local church; etc. Think about it! Y ou could help “to save a soul from death and hide a multitude of sins”! That is effective Soul Winning, Rev. Oscar Stalcup Pastor: Foursquare Gospel Church — and handicapped. From left. Skillshop Scheduled A “Send 1 You” Visitation Skillshop will be held on Mon- day and Tuesday, March 12-13, at Calvary Baptist Church from 79:30 p.m. Sessions will be held for each age group. Subjects to be taught are: Visiting For Ministry, Evangelistic Witness, and Visiting In Difficult Situations. Area churches are invited to REV. GEORGE GRISSOM participate in the sessions. ‘Farming can be complicated these days. x Same goes for { income taxes. # i 0 “With farming, one wrong step and it could cost you down the road. The same is true with tax preparation, and that’s why [always go to H&R Block. My preparer is trained to know all the special problems that farmers face. And that saves me money. So I'll do the farm work while Block does the tax work.” People who know their business go to HeR BLOCK = E.
