Screening Sessions Scheduled A team of teachers, speech therapists, the school nurse, the school social worker, and the principal will conduct pre-school screening sessions for all children who will enter kindergarten this coming school year and their parents. To be eligible, the child must be five years old on or before October 15, 1985. Registration is currently tak- ing place at each of the five elementary schools. The screening sessions are being planned for fifteen students at one time. The first group will begin at 8:30 a.m., a.m., and the last at 1:30 p.m. Parents should contact the school in their district to secure application forms and make an appointment for the screening which is on a first- come, first-serve basis. If the parent does not know which school his child will attend, he should call the District School Office at 739-4589 for that information. Screening sessions will be held as follows: West School, April 29-30; North School, May 1-2; East. School, May 6-7; Grover School, May School, May 13-14. CHARLOTTE —-The University of North Carolina at Charlotte will host the state’s 1985 ‘‘History Day” contest Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in Cone University Center. Dr. Robert Rieke, UNCC history professor and state coordinator for ‘‘History Day,” said approximately 180 students in grades six through 12 are expected to enter the contest, which has as its theme this year AMERICANISM PAMPHLETS—Unit 155 “Triumph and Tragedies in History.” Contestants will be the win- ners and first runners-up from the state’s eight district contests held earlier this year. State winners and first runners-up will be eligible to attend the national history contest June 11-14 in Washington, D.C.
