ro Hemld PEGGY ANN GOFORTH ADLAI STEVENSON MOSES ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED—Miss Peggy Ann Goforth of Gastonia and Adlai Stevenson Moses of Kings Mountain have announced plans to be married on May 10th in Kings Moun- tain’s Eastside Baptist Church. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late Mary Sue and Benjamin Franklin Goforth and the bridegroom-to-be is the son of William J. and Margie E. Moses of 401 Sims Street, Kings Mountain. DENISE JUNE LaVENE ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED—The engagement of Miss Denise June LaVene of Shelby to James Michael Buchanan of Flat Rock is announced by her mother, Mrs. Robert J. LaVene of Shelby. Mr. Buchanan is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Frances Buchanan of Flat Rock. The bride-elect is a graduate of Shelby High School and UNCC where she receiv- ed her BA in English and was a member of Delta Zeta Sorori- ty. She is employed by Kings Mountain District Schools. Mr. Buchanan is a graduate of Hendersonville High School and received his B.S. degree from UNCC where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is employed by Bell South Advertising and Publishing Company in Charlotte. A June 29 wedding is planned in Shelby. Showers Honor Robin, Seven aunts of “the” bride elect hosted a lingerie shower Friday night honoring Miss Robin Davis, whose wedding to Michael Todd Berry takes place Saturday at 3 p.m. in Grace United Methodist Church. Entertaining 20 guests at the home of Mrs. Robert Crawford at 811 Rhodes Avenue were Mrs. Crawford and sisters, Mrs. Robet Whitesides, Mrs. Donald ' Bumgardner, Mrs. Don Ellis, Mrs. Linda Tignor, Mrs. Kay Hawkins and Mrs. Tom Hagan. ; Present as special guests were Mrs. Robert Davis, mother of the bride-elect, Mrs. Roy Phillips, mother of the bridegroom-to-be, Mrs. Gina Jackson of Oxford, Ala., who will be matron of honor in the wedding, and Sheri Dodson of = Anniston, Alabama. AEE Upon her arrival Miss Davis was presented a shoulder corsage of daisies to wear with her royal blue par- ty dress. Arrangements of yellow flowers and greenery were used throughout the home. Miss Robin Davis, bride- elect of Michael Todd Berry, was honored Saturday at 1 p.m. at a bridesmaids lun- cheon hosted by her aunt, Mrs. Ira Bumgardner, at her -home at 806 Hillside Drive. .. Miss Davis and Mr. Berry will be married April 27th in ‘Grace United Methodist Church. Twelve members of the bridal party attended the lun- cheon, including Mrs. Robert Davis, mother of the bride- elect, and Mrs. Roy Phillips, mother of the future bridegroom. A small wed- ding cake topped with wed- ding bells centered the bride’s table and the bride’s place was marked with a miniature wedding bell and a corsage to match her orchid and white party dress. Miss Davis took the occa- sion to present gifts to her at- tendants and the hostess gift to her was a set of vases. Miss Kim Smith, whose wedding to Ross Campbell will take place May 25th in Lockhart, S.C., was honored Sunday afternoon at a bridal shower at the home of Mrs. Jim Potter on West Mountain Street. Entertaining with Mrs. Potter was Mrs. Burris Ramey. ; A color motif of pink was carried out in decorative details and refreshments. The refreshment table, from which party pickups and punch were served, was decorated with pink and burgundy flowers. Morrison. : Berrys Announce Birth Mr. and Mrs. R. David Berry, Jr. of Route 3, Kings Mountain, announce the birth of a daughter, Leigh, born Wednesday, April 17. Rebecca has an 8 year old sister, Christina. Paternal grandparents are Dave and Joan Berry of Kings Mountain. Maternal grandparents are Wylie and Rate Carver of Bessemer Ci- y. Colburn-Oster Couple Exchange Marriage Vows St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church provided the setting April 13th for a 2:30 p.m. wed- ding uniting Miss Alane Marie Colburn and Robert Leland Oster in marriage. The Rev. Harwood T. Smith, minister of the church, officiated at the double-ring ceremony. Jane Alexander was organist for the program of nuptial music. The bride, given in mar- riage by her father, wore a formal wedding gown of white satin and organza designed with bateau neckline, short sleeves, and long full skirt. Her fingertip veil was attached to a camelot headpiece. She car- ried a bouquet of white roses. Mrs. Tom Sutherland of Royal<Oak, Michigan attend- ed the bride as matron of honor and bridesmaids were Miss Betty Fern of Kent, Ohio and Mrs. Jay Scholes of Troy, Ohio, sister of the bride. They wore royal blue formals and carried bouquets of daisies. Richard Oster of Aurora, Ohio was his brother’s best man. Ushers were Douglas Oster of Aurora, Ohio, brother of the bridegroom, and Jay Scholes, of Troy, Ohio, brother-in-law of the bride. The bride’s parents enter- tained after the ceremony at a beautifully appointed reception in the church fellowship hall where the wedding theme was carried out in decorative details. Mr. and Mrs. Milton C. Col- burn of Kings Mountain are parents of the bride who at- tended Kent State University in Ohio. : The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. TIMOTHY HAYNES (Anita Peterson) Peterson-Haynes Pair ‘Exchange Vows In York Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Haynes, who were wed Satur- day, are on a wedding trip to the Tennessee mountains and afterwards will be at home in Havelock, N.C. Miss Anita Peterson became Mr. Haynes’ bride in a 3 p.m. wedding in Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church of York, S.C. Dr. Jess McCrosky of- ficiated at the ceremony for which wedding music was presented by Robert Wells at the organ and Sandy Wells as vocal soloist. ” Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a for- mal gown of white chiffon over taffeta. The bodice featured a Queen Anne neckline adorned with Venice lace and pearls. The plunging back of the bodice was enhanced by an insert of sheer chiffon and appliques of Alencon lace. The shoulders featured sheer illu- sion flowing into leg-o-mutton sleeves encircling the wrists in cuffs of Alencon lace. The skirt of the gown was made of billowing chiffon panels adorned with arches of Venice lace and appliques of Alencon lace cascading in the back to form a cathedral train. The skirt featured ar- ches of Venice and Alencon lace and a border of Alencon lace. In lieu of a veil, the ‘bride wore a hat of Chantilly lace edged with a pleated ruf- fle. Accenting the back of the hat was a pouf of sheer illu- sion flowing into figertip illu- sion. Ms. Jackie Connolly at- tended the bride as honor at- tendant and Chantelle Con- nolly of Dalton, Ga., cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Ringbearers were Kelly Le Ann Beason and Mitchel Douglas Beason, both of Kings Mountain, cousins of the bridegroom. Gene M. Haynes of Kings Mountain was his son’s best man... Ushers were. Peterson of York, S.C. are parents of the bride who is a 1982 graduate of York Com- prehensive High School and is employed as assistant cashier at Cato’s in York, S.C: The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gene M. Haynes of Kings Mountain. He is a 1979 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School and is a Third Class Petty Of- ficer in the United States Navy with six years of ser- vice. MR. AND MRS. RAY BILL OLIVER CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY—Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bill Oliver of 1900 Parkdale Circle were honored by their daughters on their 43rd wedding anniversary on April 16th. A lovely two-tier cake decorated with yellow roses was served along with other refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Killian presented the couple beautiful yellow roses.
