Mrs. Henderson was honored on her birthday July 2 at a reception hosted by her six children and their families at Kings Mountain Holiday Inn. Hosting the party were Rance Henderson, Patsy Tart, Kay Davis, Phyllis Roberts, Steve Henderson and Vivian Rikard. Friends and relatives called from 2:30-4 p.m. The reception room was beauti- fully decorated with fresh flowers and featured a display table with birthday greetings and floral ar- rangements from friends. Silver ap- pointments held cut flowers and lighted candles. The three-tiered birthday cake was cut and served with refreshments, A life-long resident of Kings Mountain and of First Baptist Church, Mrs. Henderson has 17 grandchildren and ‘18 great-grand- children. Grandchildren alternated attend- ing the guest register. Mr. and Mrs. Yates Harbison di- rected the "well wishers" to the re- ceiving line. MICKI BLACK Micki Black in Who's Who Micki Black, a rising senior at Kings Mountain High School, has been nominated for "Who's Who" for the second straight year. Only five percent of the nation's high school students are included in "Who's Who" each year and less than one-half of one percent are honored for two or more years. Micki will be eligible for a $1000 scholarship from over $100,000 to be awarded this year. She is a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church and is active in French club, marching band, Blazer band, and is co-editor of Milestones yearbook. She was ju- nior and senior class representa- tive, a mascot, and Candy Striper. She received an academic award her freshman year in high school. Micki is the daughter of Eddie and Jane Black and granddaughter of Margaret Henderson and the late Emmitt Henderson and the late Harold and Evelyn Pearson Black. She is the great-granddaughter of Ella Pridmore and the late B.T. Pridmore and Jim and Wyona Pearson. Substitute teacher workshop scheduled Kings Mountain District Schools’ substitute teacher work- shop is scheduled for Friday, July 30, from 8:30-12 noon at King Mountain Middle School. BM Kings Mountain High School cheerleaders participated in Winn- Dixie and A&W Root Beer "float for funds" program Saturday, rais- Ing money for special school pro- Jects. Pioncer Days, a festival celebrat- ing mid-19th century South Carolina farm life, will be held at the Living History Farm at Kings Mountain State Park Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18-19. This weckend celebration fea- tures living history demonstrations such as basketmaking, woodcarv- ing, blacksmithing, traditional pio- neer games, folk music, and arts and crafts. Applications arc being accepted from craftsmen whose work re- fleets traditional skills. Exhibits must blend with and complement the theme of the festival. Exhibitors may choose to demon- strate their work, and all crafts sold must be handcrafted by the exhibit- ing artist. To apply, interested persons should submit an applications with a $12 fee, along with three clear photographs or slides showing the type of work to be displayed.
