Scruggs said that Harry Matthew left for Minnesota last week and Mildred Blanton, also of Shelby, left for St. Louis, MO Friday. Other Cleveland County volunteers are already there to help flood vic- tims. Scruggs said that more than 6,000 families in seven states may be without homes because of rising flood waters. More than half of these families are expected to seek Red Cross help. Already the Red Cross has opened 22 shelters and served 50,000 meals. Scruggs said the national Red Cross headquarters has called Shelby and local agencies looking for volunteers, especially people trained in Disaster Services Human Resources Systems for three-week stays in flood regions. People interested in training for disaster relief may call Scruggs at 487-8595. : Pictured are Lions Club dignitaries on the program for the District 31-C banquet Friday in Kings Mountain.
