IMl Track Team Second In South Point Meet Kings Mountain High’s men’s track team finished second and the women finished third in a joint track meet Thursday after noon at Lineberger Stadium at South Point High School. The Mountaineers finished se cond to host South Point. The Red Raiders tallied 67'/t points to 55 '/2 for Kings Mountain and 55 for North Gaston’s Wildcats. North Gaston won the ladies meet with 64 points, followed by South Point with 59 and Kings Mountain with 38. Bernard Womic and Markus Hager won two events each for the Mountaineers. Womic cap tured the 1600 meter run in 4:34.5 and the 3200 meter run in 10:17. Hager won the high hurdles in 16.14 seconds and the low hurdles in 20.88 seconds. Cates And Huffstetler Win Pair Jerri Cates and Pat Huffstetler were double winners in Kings Mountain W’omen’s Tennis League action Thursday night at the KM Junior High couns. Ms. Cates won a forfeit over Phyllis Rogers and defeated Wanda Witherspoon 6-2, 6-2 in singles play. Ms. Huffstetler defeated Jamie Humphries 4-6,64,64 in singles action and teamed with Joni Nolen to defeat Barbara Jones and Barbara Starnes 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 in doubles competition. In other action, Brenda Rikard defeated Olivia Mayhew 8-0 and Sue Horton defeated Lynn Eskridge 8-0. KM’s Goode Inks Grant With Smith From Pag* 3-A joyed working hard and winn ing. Her desire and ability will help her in her college ca-eer.” A number of area colleges recruited Goode, including UNC-Charlotte, UNC- Greensboro, Spartanburg, North Greenville and North Carolina Wesleyan. The Mountainettes were 17-10 overall this past setison, finished second in both the regular season and tournament in the SWC and advanced to the District Tournament. Other first places for the Mountaineers included Demetrius Goode in the high jump, six feet; Todd Wray in the 400 meter run, 54.58; and Jeff Lineberger in the 800 meter run, 2:06. Goode took second place in the long jump, Terrence Blalock was third in the 200 meter dash, Richard Ellison tied for third in the low hurdles and Carl Smith was third in the 400 meter run. The Kings Mountain girls picked up four first places in in dividual competition. Linda Stowe won the discus with a throw of 91’11”, Diane Williams won the long jump with a leap of 15’9”, Sheryl Goode won the tri ple jump with a jump of 29’8”, and Roberta Young won the 100 meter dash in 13.1 seconds. The two Kings Mountain teams return to South Point Fri day. The girls will be competing in the pre-Southwestern 3-A Conference meet.
