Ask Priscilla Rickenbacker, Wesleyan College’s ail everything basketball player. At the College’s annual Athletic Awards Banquet last night, Rickenbacker received the Most Valuable Player Award for her state chamionship team and her selection to the American Women’s Sports Foundation All-American Team was an nounced. To Rickenbacker, who has collected honors all year (she was NCAIAW All Division Most Valuable Player, NCAIAW All- Tournament Most Valuable Player, and led the stale in scor ing from the beginning of the season to the end dumping in 20 points per game) the All- American honor is a dream come true. “Priscilla told me at the beginning of the year that her goal in college basketball was to become an All American,” said Wesleyan women’s basket ball coach Laura Ferrell, “and it has happened! We are all very proud of her. She was our team leader all year and she is an ex ample of how a whole lot of hard work can result in fulfilled dreams. There is no doubt that she was our most valuable player.” Rickenbacker becomes the first North Carolina Wesleyan woman athlete to attain All American status in the history of the school. Having just finished her sophomore year, she will have two more years of competi tion with the Battling Bishops. Priscilla Rickenbacker is the granddaughter of Herbert Mc Clain of Grover. She graduated from Kings Mountain High School where she played for Coach Kathy Brooks. BR TRYOUTS Tryouts for 14-15 year old Babe Ruth players will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the junior hi^ field. Players who have not yet registered are asked to be time proiwily Mper.Perions who have alrea3y feSistered should also be present for tryouts. Players on the junior high team will be excused. Kings Mountain’s David Ray Robinson hurled five innings of no-hit relief Tuesday and picked up the victory as Western Carolina’s Catamounts closed out regular season Southern Conference play with an 84 vic tory over UT-Chatanooga. The victory was Robinson’s fifth of the year, most on the Catmount staff. He also has a club record six saves. The victory gave the Cata mounts a 124 Southern Con ference recoid and a good shot at the conference title. Several other clubs, including Marshall, East Tennessee and Ap palachian, have only three losses, but they also have several games remaining against each other. Western will now sit back and await the completion of the season. Should the Catamounts win the conference, they will qualify for the district playoffs. If not, their season will be com plete. Robinson, a sophomore, is en joying one of the best seasons any Cat pitcher has ever had. He has now appeared in 16 games and has an earned run average of less than 0.70. /j—^ PRISCILLA RICKENBACKER ...
