All Bethware students and teachers paraded in a variety of Easter hats and bonnets on the closing day of school before spr ing vacations began. The winners were Lee Bell, Billy Lawrence, Tessic Ruff, Kim Wells, Randi Carroll, Ty Ross, Nikki Crane, Carl Carter, Wayne Roberts, Grant Holder, Melissa Hambright, Tandra Leftwich, Nicole Blackwood, Tammy Milton, Robbie Hale, Jim Thompson, Frankie Moore, Allison Bumgardner, Paula Mor ris, Lavise Murphy, Mike White, Pam Conner, and Dallas Stacey. Julienne Hambright won the prize among the teachers and Linda Ellis copped the prize among aides. “It was really a fun day”, said Principal Ronald Nanney who said that the hat show is an an nual event and the pupils decorate their hats with everything from eggs to bunny rabbits. Visit Niece Mr. and Mrs. Nevette Hughes spent the Easter holidays with their niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Canady and son, Brian, in Fayetteville. Mrs. Canady is the former Joan Gayle Cadieu. Also visiting the Canadys dur ing the weekend were Mrs. Canady’s mother, Mrs. Ruth Cadieu, and Mrs. Canady, brother, Charles Roy Cadieu, both of Charleston, S.C. and Mrs. Canady’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Gaffney and Jane of Raleigh. The family enjoyed an Easter reunion on Sunday. Returning to Kings Mountain on Monday the Hugheses stop ped in Hamlet to visit Albert McLellan and in Lumberton to visit former Kings Mountain residents, Mr. and Mrs. B.N. Barnes. Jr. High Girls Win Kings Mountain Junior High’s girls softball team took over sole possession of first place in the Western Association stan dings Thursday when it defeated East McDowell 6-3. Dana Blalock hurled the win and her teammates backed her with a nine-hit attack. KM also took advantage of seven East er rors. Spring Young and Jeanelle Parker led the KM hitting with two hits each. Joanna Boheler and Melinda Roberts hit home runs. The Lady Patriots travel to Crest Monday. Robert Dodge of the Kings Mountain Police Department. Kiwanians To Sponsor Talent Show Kings Mountain Kiwanis Club will sponsor the 23rd an nual Schools Talent Show Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in B. N. Barnes Auditorium. Students in Kindergarten through Seventh Grades will perform in the show which will feature winners from the various elementary schools. Prizes will be presented to winners in each category of the show. Guest performers will be entertainers Sharon Putnam, Jeff Putnam, and Tommy Cobb. Radio Station WKMT Manager Jonas Bridges will be master of ceremonies. Admission is one dollar per person. Friends Seeking Help For Bumed-Out Victim Friends of a burned-out family are asking the public to donate furnishings, clothing, and linens to the family of Mrs. Onie McLean whose home on West Mountain Street was almost totally destroyed by fire Easter evening. Mrs. McLean lost all her possessions in the blaze which was believed to have been caus ed by lightning, firemen said. Mildred Jackson, of No. 53 Pine Manor Apartments, and Rosa Black, of No. 62 Pine Manor Apartments, are soliciting funds and household articles for the victims.
